Around here you smell the cattle trucks when they drive by... Last summer you could smell the wild fires from up to 100 miles away.

I was in NYC until yesterday for the auto show. We stayed right on Central Park S. As soon as you walked through the doors, all you could smell was horse poo.

Nothing's worse than getting stuck behind a truck full of pigs when you're in a convertible. It's not just the smell, but there's also the physical products leaving and blowin' in the wind.
Foulds noodle factory is in my hometown; they used to make the macaroni noodles for Kraft. On a summer day, that entire neighborhood smells like pasta.
Best smelling town in the US is totally Lynchburg TN. I don't really love Jack Daniel's that much but DAMN.
alex wrote: The highway exit for an old apartment of mine in St. Louis often smelled like purple. You know what I'm talking about. Not grape, purple. Never could figure it out. Best guess is it was coming from the Tums factory downtown when the wind was right. But never any other flavor, only purple.
Purple drank?

I was there last summer... didn't smell anything at all but holy hell were the cicadas loud! Like something out of a sci-fi movie

Must have not been cooking the mash.

But anywho, where was their old factory?DukeOfUndersteer wrote: What's the deal with Ovaltine?I live around the corner from their old factory. Used to be able to smell it all over the south end of the city. Mmmm.
Is it because it is supposed to help with your O-ring?
The Ovaltine Factory is still there, but it's just called Canadian Malt now:

Gorgeous old art deco building.
We use a caulking, on the doors we install, that smells just like chocolate frosting. It's even brown and has the consistency of frosting. Since you're wondering, no, I haven't tasted it.
The only factory around here that smells is the paper mill. On a cold foggy morning, it smells a little like chicken soup. The rest of the time is just stinks.

One of my all time favourite smells.
I live about 10 miles south of Kennett Square, PA, the mushroom-growing capital of the new world. When the wind is from the north, look out. Mushroom soil is mostly peat and manure. Imagine that they just mulched your entire county.
Yeah.
I'm always amazed at the way threads go off on some of the oddest tangents. Only on here could a thread be started about absolutely nothing and end up discussing the various smells of different cities. Wow that's bizarre.
Got crazy busy at work today. Didn't have time to eat lunch. Came home and mama made a killer chicken, homemade mac & cheese, and zucchini. Somehow, an hour later, this combination has turned into farts that smell like someone set a pile of rotten eggs and garbage on fire, then put it out by dumping black pepper on top.
Used to sail on a lake that shared a shore with a pickle factory. Associating sailing with pickles is....weird, but that's what I do.
Awwww man. I was all "Maybe I shouldn't...what if Lesley sees it? Nah, she'll never look here." Honestly, on the very, very rare occasion I do let one fly, it smells like two angels making sweet love on a bed of Rhododendron blossoms.
Wow. This thread went from nothing to city smells to the demon wind from the nether regions (thanks jg) and I dunno what tangent to send it on next. Except maybe that I refuse to eat kimchee. Or maybe that I am a true nerd because I am watching the Thursday Futurama marathon and wondering what Leela looks like nekkid.
