While I can't give you advice on passing the time in the air, I can for on the ground. At least if your interests are food and beer.
Check out Brew It Up! brewpub in downtown Sacramento. 14th & H. From the airport, take I-5 south into town. Get off at Jst. Follow that down and turn left on 14th. Any group of folks will be happy there food and drink wise.
There are other great food and beer spots if you're interested, including a great burger joint that specializes in "unique meats" (buffalo, gator, wild boar, kangaroo, etc.). http://flaminggrillcafe.info/Home_Page.html
