Just picked this up the other day. Thought it would be a handy tool to learn with. Now I just need electrodes and some steel to work with and I'll be set!

Get a HF auto-darkening hood and some extra big gauntlet gloves.

Don't wear your Rolex when welding. Ask me how I know.

I do believe you made a score. That is a bone simple, AC only, stick welder that has been around since they started welding up chariot wheels. Now get some 6010 rods and start sticking things together. Ya'll done good, boy.

A fellow I worked with went to an auction a couple of years ago. I had told him that I'd take a welder if he happened across one. He's a welding engineer,so he found one at went through it thoroughly before bringing it to me. My cost.....$47 ! He also picked up a second one for himself, his cost....$7.50. New,at Lowe's they're normally about $225, so you got a bargain and they last forever.

Blew a hole through the crystal with slag, GPS. Should have:

  1. been wearing gauntlet length gloves
  2. not been wearing the Rolex.

I also no longer wear it while pulling motors or other automotive work. And for gloves in general, I prefer those bought at an actual welding supply store over the HF ones. There is a difference. I also like an additional heat shield over my left glove, as that one seems to take the brunt of the heat. Makes my gloves last 3x longer.

Nice score. That's the exact machine I learned on.

That is my exact plan. First order of business? A gokart chassis. Might use a Metro drive-line for the motivation. I already have the shift mechanism planned out in my head. Or maybe a 2-fiddy bike engine with a stick shifted trans and clutch lever on said shifter. My mind has too many dumb things rolling through it.
