we are looking for a couple of extra people that can run cnc and manual mills and lathes and also likes to play on the internet all night... also, we need someone to learn to run the laser on nights because i don't want to be the one operating it when the next $30,000 part that the laser needs to do laser stuff blows up...

Perhaps not a career, but when my brother was going through a divorce and needed more lawyer than he could afford, he did some work for an old lady around the corner. $10/hour under the table, he painted a kitchen door. Then she asked if could clean rain gutters. then, and then, and next thing you know, just by word of mouth among little old ladies he could fill 50 hours a week.
I remember a few times he cleaned out a garage or basement. Yeah, yeah, that's crap; throw it out. Sold an oak roll top desk for $500. Picked up a yellow MGB with paperwork for free. Got an antique Japanese fly fishing kit, very tiny little lures but the collectors went nuts.
Again, not a career but it will pay bills.
