Any linguists on here?  I know Welsh is a British Celtic language related to Irish, Breton, Cornish etc. and all predate the Romans.  While English as we know it as the bastard child of a the Germanic and Romances languages having a centuries long orgy.  I assume that prior to the Romans arriving with the Latin alphabet there was no written version of the Celtic language, so the reason Welsh appears so impossibly complicated when written is because you are trying to force a square peg to be described with round holes.  I'm guessing that there could be a whole lot easier way to communicate it on the page.

Anyone want to make themselves look smart while making me look dumb and save me going down a google rabbit hole?

I love this video where some wiseacre at a news channel threw that town name up on the weather map to trip up the meteorologist, only for him to actually be from that town and he aces the pronunciation without breaking stride.

Yeah, Llanfair is not really a fair example, because it was specifically named to have such a ridiculously long title that people would want to come see it.

But "Ioan Gruffudd" being pronounced "Ian Griffith" is more typical.
