My life has been moving at an exponential rate these past few years. There's a lot of time to make up for. Found a girl to love, asked her to marry me, talk of kids, and now we are buying a house.

I don't think the house has sunk in yet. Everything else I easily, quickly accepted,  if not initiated. Hundreds of thousands of dollars, however, is beyond my comprehension. I'm scared E36 M3less.

I was driving a death trap of a 1 ton dually at 16 so I find it hard to believe a Honda Civic full of ABS stability control and air bags is too much car.

I disagree.

A few years ago, every triple fatal crash around here consisted of three teens, a WRX and a tree.

Fast cars are still fast, regardless of safety equipment. And teens are still teens. Or at least some of them are.

Subarus do have a particular affinity for large, immovable objects.  If you hear about a single vehicle fatality around here, there is often a Subaru or similar type car involved.

A:  A 300 hp hot hatch is FAR too much car for a new driver, we’ve all seen too many cases of teens being teens and killing themselves because their skills aren’t up to the speeds their cars can achieve.

B:  People who buy $40K cars for brand new drivers piss me off to an irrational degree.

If you want to be piissed off, a friend who worked for a certain Fiat specialist told me about rich a-holes who would commission $50k restorations of X1/9s and Bertones for their kids to have as first cars.

No.  Put your kid in a Type R.  They are like Cheetos. Crunch all you want, they will make more.  Old cars are infinitely more valuable than new ones because they still make new ones.

Or, better yet, give your kid nothing.  Give them food and shelter and education, because they need those three things to survive and succeed, but if they want toys then they have to work for it, and appreciate what is necessary to have those things.

One of the suburbs near us (Hinsdale Central HS) is known for the students having way better cars than the teachers.  Lots of BMW's and Mercedes in the student parking lot.

Oh, look at those kids at that table. The guys are damn fine and classy. The girls are super-skinny, uber-hot, have Chanel handbags, and are wearing UGG boots with Juicy pants. Everyone has a different North Face jacket. And what's that outside, their fleet of Range Rovers? Oh wow. Those kids are SoOooOOO Hinsdale.

E36 M3, the first car I had was a $1400 '99 Cavalier with the pushrod 2.2L and 3-speed auto, that had 140k miles and evidence of being wrecked a few times. My parents bought it for me as a graduation gift when I moved to TN to go to college

I am in the "Help your kids get a reliable, boring and safe car if you can" camp.

Then, make them pay for gas, insurance and maintenance. They'll quickly learn that for some things, the purchase price is just really a small entry fee to total cost of ownership.

My judgemental self was surprised to see a G-Wagen stopped on the shoulder of I65 in the rain with the owner helping somebody in a minivan change a flat tire.

After attending Formula Drift New Jersey and watching Rad Dan's Supra and Ryan Tuerck's GT86, I have a strong desire to have some Toyota JZ power in my life. I just don't know in what car.

Found a new tool that I desperately want. (Like found out that it even existed.) I confess I also can't afford one either.

Piranha Ironworker...

Nibble, shear (plate or angle), punch, brake, and apparently even bend tubes if you have the attachments. All hydraulic powered via foot pedal. Videos I've seen make it looks like it eats 1/4" like it's a tin can. So clean too.

Probably going to setup some saved searches in case I ever see one for stupid cheap...

The only thing keeping me at my current job is the obscene discount on tools. Other than that, there's not much keeping me from moving down south and never dealing with bitter cold winters again.

I'm curious to see what happens when this dude with this nice simple 2006 Civic finds out I'm interested in the possibility of trading my Mustang for his car. (Replaces 2 of my cars and adds some sanity to the fleet, more room to play with my 80s GM crap)

Our vacation house is big and luxurious.  My kids are 18, 17, 16, and 14.  All good.

My brother, his wife, their 8 year old daughter are all perfectly fine.  Their 19 month old twins OTOH are reminding me why I am over small children.   So much screaming.  And attention.  And neediness.    Ugh.

My little one (just a few months older than those twins!) is a ton of fun. So cuddly and such a parrot, repeating everything people say. Yeah there's screaming and yes she needs attention every moment she's awake. But man is it fun. I get being "over it," but I'm sure I'll miss this age for the rest of the kids' lives. (No plans for more kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I want something I can slide around and do burnouts with and generally not give a berkelyey. The Miata is set up too grippy and race car, and it's too nice and I have too much invested in it. If I did burnouts or drifts (and Miata's are tough to drift to begin with), I'd be chewing up pricey 200tw tires and if I delaminated one and chewed up my quarter panel I'd be mad. I want something slightly scruffy, that doesn't have trick suspension and top-shelf tires and doesn't have to be particularly competitive or great at any one thing. And has JZ power.

Also, I'm not nearly as bad as some people around here. I only have 2 cars, the Miata and my Baja. And I barely have access to my Baja anymore, since my father's ZJ died and I lent him the Baja until he found a replacement for the ZJ. It's been several months, he still is using the Baja
