I thought this mail-in thing was supposed to be all good, huh.
Works just fine in civilized states. Colorado has had functional mail in ballots my entire voting career, I've never had to vote in person at all let alone on election day. Granted, I usually end up dropping off in a dropbox at the county polling place, usually due to procrastination, this year to not depend on an overloaded postal system when living in a rural area.
Guess that's my minor win; I didn't have to leave home on election day or go to a polling place, since my ballot was dropped off two weeks ago.
Nobody ever believed I did this the first time it happened.
I successfully re-bagged a cheapo tent, for the second time in my life.
The great thing about a neat whisky, (one of the great things, at least) is that I always remember the recipe.

Managed to sell an unknkown age Corsa stainless exhaust to cover half of what my new Stainless Works setup cost. Amazingly dude in CA was willing to pay the $270 to ship it from OH. WOOT
A younger person at church asked for comedies to watch and I gave them a list of Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles and History of the World pt. 1 and they were receptive. There is hope!
In reply to dxman92 :
That's a great start. A few summers ago I watched Blazing Saddles with my then 15 year old nephew. Just watching him cringe at some of the language was priceless.

I hope you went out and bought a lottery ticket after that.

Helping a friend from work put a used 360 in his son's Ram 2500 yesterday. Using heat, extractors, vise grips, and the welder I was able to pull the remains of the exhaust manifold bolts from the new engine. And before we called it a night, we had the old engine out of the truck.
Ahhhhhh. That's a relief.

Some cars are just too good for their owners. I am in possession of possibly the slowest vehicle to ever race the GRM challenge: VWBruceGuys' Metro.
I got it from FastAsleep a few years ago. It has sat in my driveway ever since while I fool myself into thinking I'll track it one day. The battery dies, the tires go flat, it gets filthy and covered with leaves. But with a fresh battery charge it starts every. single. time. It's just a good little car and hearing its raspy little exhaust makes me happy. I woke it up again today from a loooong time sitting, stretched its legs, and put it back to bed. That'll do pig...

This wasn't there this morning. It is now, and will stay there. Now for all the million details needed in a motor swap.

So, you are a sorcerer then? Perhaps some minor demigod? Wizard of the black arts?
I've been somewhat slacking in my GRM participation the past few months.
Today I actually have something to post in here - my son managed to survive to his 21st birthday!!

Just ran literal laps around the 12 year old, while smoking AND barefoot.

I did it AGAIN on Sunday when packing up the campsite.
And did it a fourth time, after I had to remove the tent and unfold it because my keys were in the tent...
In an attempt to eke a bit more life out of my very aged iMac, I finally dropped the money on a SSD to replace the original HDD in the chance that it was part of the problem with it freezing up. I've been trying all weekend to get it swapped, but after initially trying yesterday was stymied by having to shuffle around TBs of data to free up enough on the smaller existing SSD boot drive to use the Migration Assistant to get the computer to let me log in without the original HDD. It finally all finished up about half an hour ago and I swapped the drives and confirmed that everything was working before fully reassembling the computer.
I was expecting some performance increase from losing the HDD- but I didn't expect this much of a speed increase. While the computer was booting off the SSD it was still using the HDD as the system drive, so applications and data were still loading off of it- and it definitely shows. Hopefully my gamble pays off and it helps with the crashing... but if not, it makes the computer more usable in general...

At the beginning of the year I had to jump the Manic Miata. I put the + cable on the + terminal and grounded the - cable to the chassis stanchion that the radio antenna is mounted on, because the - terminal is way back near the fender with little clearance.
Started the car with no trouble, but I noticed the radio didn't really work. I assumed I cooked whatever electronics are in the little housing at the base of the antenna. Been driving it all summer with no radio.
Yesterday when I was pulling the Miata's battery out to jumpstart the Concert Coach (another story), I saw that the antenna lead plug was disconnected.
Haven't driven the car yet but I'm confident that will solve the no radio issue. For what radio is worth.
24 hours or so after firing the iMac up after swapping in the SSD. 1) Hasn't locked up yet and 2) I've seen no indication of any of the graphical glitches it was having before. Keeping my fingers crossed that this has bought me the time I need until the Apple-silicon larger iMacs arrive.
Got offered a mechanical engineering job at a major car maker. Now trying to decide if I am going to take it. Never worked in the automotive industries. Benefits are better then what I get now except leave which is about the same (I really really wanted more). Only thing is it isn't really the job I have been dreaming of getting but I am having zero luck getting interviews for the dream job (working at NASA). So do I wait it out and try to go for the dream or take an upgrade on what I have now and see where it leads...
In reply to 93EXCivic :
Take the upgrade and keep applying to NASA? Assuming we're not talking about the sanctioning body, they're not easy to get into (my wife used to work for them a while ago, and it was quite a job to even get a job there), so why not enjoy the upgrade and learn something different in the meantime?
In reply to BoxheadTim (Forum Supporter) :
All that is true. My other holdup is I still don't have a really great idea of what I am going to be doing. It is a new facility and I didn't get a really clear answer from the interview. Also slight worry about this being a Japanese company there being a lot of long hours given the work culture I have seen from Japan.
My worry with the NASA thing is I currently have a lot of connections in NASA either as civil servants or contractors and there is always the worry of how long will those connections be there. Also it seems the later it goes into my career the harder it will be to get in there. There just haven't been any jobs recently that are a great fit for my skill set.
