For FL nurses, it depends on the area--but it would appear that this area is both low-paying and high patient/nurse ratios compared to other areas.

Fiance was a PA in Naples for three years, 2006-2009. What do you do?

Just asked her what she thought. pretty much echo'd Per's comment above. high demand but also lots of people going there for work in the field because it's "FL" mean you'll be able to find work but not make as much as you might elsewhere.

All I can add is that the Melbourne area is pretty nice. Keep in mind that we have this thing called the "Sunshine Tax". You want the Florida sunshine, it's going to cost you.

Skip the whole "half-back" thing and move directly to GA. We need some good healthcare pros. Piedmont is amazing.

My wife is an ARNP at a nursing home/rehab facility. There's plenty of work for LPNs in Florida, especially in retirement communities, like here in Sarasota. Pay tends to be lower generally than many places in the country, but cost of living is also less expensive generally (though things like food, gas, etc. ain't much cheaper).

All those retirees in Florida means they've got lots of money to spend but want to spend "yesterday's" money on things.

I've looked heavily at Florida as a possible residency, but the "expect a %50 pay cut" worries me.

The Raleigh-Durham area is still growing. A good friend of mine decided to change careers at age 40 and is now a nurse at UNC Chapel Hill.

Overall, he says the prospects are really good, esp. if you're an imaging or anesthesiology nurse. Also, and I have no idea if this is true, he is considered a minority due to the incredible lack of male nurses.

If you're willing to work in a rural area hospital, the demand is even higher.

You'll need to log in to post.
