I've been interested in a project like this too, and could never get past finding a final drive with an acceptable ratio, but I think Turboswede is on to something with the chain drive/ transfercase parts .....

What about an AWD automatic from like an SHO, or Flex, or new Fusion? What's the differential gear ratio in those? I know the output for the rear diff is just a small adaptor/transfer case coming out of one of the cv shaft outputs. Maybe this is an option?

With that thought 8n mind, maybe you can borrow the idea from a set of V8 timing gears and machine a new spool of sorts?
Just a thought... What about a quickchange rear end? Use it up front and in the rear and reverse the normal setup on the gears? Basically under drive the final gear ratio?

That is a possibility. If you still want to keep the auto GM FWD trans, you can also affect the final drive swapping the cogs back and forth on the chain drive hidden under the side cover as well as the final drive ratio of the diff. But, you would have to be able to understand the tags on the trans to just take a glance and know what it has at both sides so you dont need to take every single one apart. Also remember, the 4TxxE have computer controlled line pressures from, I believe, 98 MY and later. My 95 Century was shifted by the computer, so you can hook up 2 toggle switches, one for each solenoid, and shift it that way since it still had a TV cable for line pressure.

Machine a spool of sorts that you can install the tripots into and make some sort of chain drive. That way, you can have a 1:1 trans output. I hope you arent scared about opening it up.

But what about (insert random auto trans)?

Helped ya out there.

But I can't find that stuff, as far as the differential gears go. Maybe I need to start looking at the Boneville speedster catalogs?
Look at "quick change" rear ends, not at all GRM though.

That's what I was thinking, I have found them on RacingJunk for pretty damn cheap though. Can you take the gears and effectively underdrive them through the quickchange gears?
