Caparo T1. A mega-ultra-hypercar that seems to break down every time it's run. EVO just had a story about an orange one going to the 'Ring to try to take the record. It broke.

Nice photos! Looks like such a fantastic assortment of cars...GT3s to Mk1 Golfs and everything in between.

When a couple of guys I know went over, they rented Alfa 75 race cars, which seemed about the cheapest way to get on track in something fun. 400 Euro from here - http://www.yougodo.com/en/External.aspx?ct=Drive+the+N%C3%BCrburgring+with+RSR+N%C3%BCrburg&c=/en/ActivityRefer.aspx%3fid%3db7c6e499-2782-4425-8448-23095ad9c2a8%26u%3dhttp%253a%252f%252fwww.rsrnurburg.com&hh=83&h=/en/ActivityReferHeader.aspx%3fid%3db7c6e499-2782-4425-8448-23095ad9c2a8%26u%3d%252fen%252fActivityRefer.aspx%253fid%253db7c6e499-2782-4425-8448-23095ad9c2a8%2526u%253dhttp%25253a%25252f%25252fwww.rsrnurburg.com

Fixed that for ya, and I picked mine up in Sweden then drove it to and on the ring, I posted the story here a couple of years ago

I've lived in Eastern Germany for the last three years and haven't gotten the chance to go yet. Seven hours drive makes day-tripping a bit difficult. Soon though.

Yeah, the trek to the Nürburgring coupled by the fact that I was going absolutely crazy with school work is what really did me in. Never mind the fact that I arrived in January.

From the dead I revive you. Going to have 10days in Frankfurt for work the first week of february. Planning to try and catch a couple of the auto museums there in Frankfurt.
Would love to make the run up to the ring for some tourist laps. Any input and details from those of you who have done it are appreciated. I had the chance to explore the performance potential of Golf Plus rental last time but hoping for more this time...

GT86? http://www.rentracecar.com/?p=137

I rented a Swift from those guys and was pleasantly surprised.

Ohmygod! Alfa 75!!!!!! http://www.rsrnurburg.com/car-rentals/alfa-romeo-75-v6

dang, these guys have some cool cars: http://www.rsrnurburg.com/car-rentals

What's your budget anyways? Personally, I'd rent the Suzuki Swift again in a heartbeat (and I'm a huge RWD guy) and go for lots and lots of laps.

Hmm hadn't thought about budget but you have proposed a few very tasty options in the 500-1000usd range.

I was at the $500 end of the spectrum when I went. I proposed the question to GRM "One lap with the GT86, or 4 laps with the Suzuki" even though I knew I was just going to get the GT86 for one lap.

The response was overwhelmingly "4-laps" (with a car that I knew to be a basic, underpowered, fwd).

I kind of hesitantly took GRMs advice and booked 4-laps in the Swift. Ohmygod, first things first: that's not a boring car in track trim. Second things second: EVERY lap was orgasmically better than the first.

If I had $1000. 6-laps with that GT86 and run it through the ringer like it was a drunk ex phoning me up for some late night... ahem... that is, I would drive it really fast and not worry about hurting the insides.

Now I'm asking myself why I EVER left Hungary

So plans are all set now for my adventure in Germany. I should have an Audi A6 wagon manual for the Ring run. The following day I'm going to try and fit in a trip the Holyland (Wolfsburg) for an afternoon in the VW museum. Looks like is 3.5 hrs each way from Frankfurt which will be a long day but should be worth it. Pics will follow...

I had an absolute BLAST in the race-prepped Swift I rented specifically for the runs around the Ring. Got passed by everything on the ring (save one very spooked BMW that I passed), but it was one of the most fun things I've ever done and would jump at the chance to do it again (especially if I had an instructor to give me tips).

I actually had a manual Ford wagon (forget what it was, Focus?) as my rental for getting to and from the Ring. I like driving it a lot, and had some fun on the twisty roads to and from the Ring. Would have been amusing to have taken it out on the Ring itself, but I imagine the rental company would have not been amused...

I am sweating the weather for sure. The weather forecast looks very hit or miss with rain 203 days per week. I could vary it from Sat to Sun but not sure that will help. Probably will go either way - the ring is still open in the rain. Guessing my rental car won't be pushing the envelope either way...

Ahem: "Autobahn"

In preparation for your run, I think you should try to get there in half your google proposed time.
