I just received this book in the mail.  My father, who was involved in WWII aircraft engines peripherally, would have loved it.  I, not being an engineer, don't understand most of it but I'll appreciate the historical context.  It appears to be exhaustively researched and documented for anyone interested in aviation piston engine development.  I figured this post belonged in Off Topic as I don't think Two Stage Two Speed supercharging is going to happen on anything with wheels.  smiley

Seems like a very cool book!

I do not, in any way wish to "steal your thunder" here, but I figure good opportunities to post about WWII aircraft and the men who worked on them and piloted them are few and far between.

In a previous life, it seems, I had occasion to meet Henry Toll, a WWII veteran who did a good bit of flying in the Pacific Theater in P-38's.  A bit on his life here:

He presented me with a copy of his book, Tropic Lightning, which I still treasure today.

He's been gone a while now, but I am glad I had the opportunity to meet him.  Quite a remarkable man.

Stranger things have happened!

I just happen to be wearing a P-40 Warhawk shirt today.

That looks like a cool book, would be very interesting to read. Love those old Warbirds
