This is a rack that was given to me by a Locost builder years ago after he decided not to go RHD. So it’s a RHD rack - or maybe a LHD rack if your car is rear steer. I forget what it’s from, something pure Locosty like a Cortina.

Yours for the price of shipping and a great story about how you will use it.

I could possibly use that for my Opel Kadett challenge build. I am planning on a motorcycle engine and most of the options I have found (including two of the engines I already have) put most of the engine on the left side of the bay where the steering shaft lives. I'll take it if nobody has a better story.

Who can beat a bike engined Kadett? That’s a high bar right out of the gate.

Only if you use a bicycle chain and two sprockets to keep the steering wheel on the left side of the car.

That looks like your typical Triumph rack.  How many turns lock-to-lock?

How bad do you think shipping would be on that? The e28 is rear steer and I've been considering trying to do a steering rack conversion.

Shipping cost will depend on where it's going, I guess. I can pull the tie rods off to make it shorter, so probably not too bad.

I'll check the turns.

Bonus info! I found the email from the guy who gave it to me. It's a Westfield rack. I'll let him explain.

Oddly, it is a Westfield rack. I bought it from the DP cars guy, who replaced the standard rack on his Westfield with a quick rack. Dimensionally, it is exactly like a MKII Escort rack; everything is the same. The rack body itself is slightly different though. It's almost like Westfield did their own casting. The easiest way to tell a Westfield rack from a standard rack is the Westie bit has a huge Allen screw right at the pinion. The standard rack has a plate of steel. Other than that, everything is the same.

It's raining so I'm not going out to measure but Westfield/Escort sounds like a good size for the Opel.

Well, shoot me a zip code and I'll figure the shipping.
