The only key for my 2003 Miata has escaped. I imagine a locksmith is my only option, any idea of the cost?

I just bought a new (spare) OEM Mazda key from Amazon for $105. Mine is for a 2015 Mazda6 and it has a specific FCC code to match the car frequency.

Programming and cutting the blank will be another $75 from the local Mazda dealer.

I am not certain that you can do it since you lost the only key. I suspect the dealer can cut and program a new key from your VIN - but not sure.

After buying the new OEM key I actually found one for sale on Facebook marketplace the next day. So used is a possibility also.

I don't have the manual handy right now, but the immobilizer  is going to make this difficult. You have to go through the dealer to get it programmed. Hopefully they can do it without a key, if not you may be in for an ugly surprise as I think some of the parts are only NOS.
