Those errors Tom_Spangler is getting suggest that our AC Legends TVR is dependent on another car with the directory name tvr_griffith_200.

Edit: I confirmed that I have such a directory, I uploaded a .zip file with it to Season 18 Cars in the Assets share. Anyone having mysterious TVR errors should try adding that.

Success! That did it.

Now to get some practice in!

I have made a car pack that includes all the cars and dependent cars for the series. It is a single stand alone zip file in the season 18 cars folder.

A merch update.  I ordered a shirt from the new site.  I took about a week (ships out of Texas).  As noted previously, about $20 for a one sided.  Shirt seems to be rather good quality (not thin at all) and 100% cotton.  Print seems good.  There is another print option that apparently is more solid, but sits more on top of the fabric (maybe like some of those original t-shirts?), but I think this is a bit more durable.  The current site has a pretty good selections of color options (I went with green since I have a lot of black t-shrits already, and white, just gets dirty too easily)

I did, accidently, order a shirt from the old site (the double sided Singer, which I really like, so I am kind of bummed I ordered ti from there), but who knows how long that will take (may be being shipped from India!). I am curious of the quality of those.

As mentioned previously, if anyone wants any particular shirt design (does not have to be GPSS related), let me know and I can put it up there (I might even help design it if needed!)....   Tangerine Torpedo is GPSS related, right...  (man, Dean is lucky I don't know his address...)

I don't know if its just how silverstone is set up but the perpetual 1800 evening sun makes the esses essentially undriveable. Dean can you please change the time of day to sometime between 1000 and 1500? The sun obliterates the visibility of the track.

you can initiate a vote to restart the   The problem is is I can't stop time as an admin. I can reset the session with two clicks but anybody can do it by putting it to a vote and I think you only need either one percent or 10% of the people in the server to vote yes so if you were the only one in the server and you vote to restart the session and then vote. Yes, you should be all set.

Thanks for trying to show me the line last night, Dean. Unfortunately, I was unable to keep the car pointed straight long enough to learn much. blush

Of all the cars I've tried so far, the GTO seems to have the least evil handling. It's very easy to get into a tank-slapper with these cars.

Oh, and Amazon just delivered a new headset for me, so I should be able to join the voice chat next time.

You should try the Bizarrini if you haven't yet.  It's probably the best 'behaved' of the current field, and is the most like a 'modern' car to drive.  The Ferrari is pretty good, but the mid-corner understeer at higher speeds is a little tricky.

The Biz plants power best, but it has awful brakes.

Cobra has tons of power and decent brakes, hard to plant it though.

Ferrari is nice and neutral (once you dial out some understeer), and has 5 gears.  Pretty competent all around.

Alfa is handling monster but down on power.

Corvette is a penalty box donut machine but sounds cool and the green livery is awesome

The new tune I put in the GTO really helps calm the thing down and makes if feel more planted.

The key to all these cars is you have to do everything slow and controlled.  Brake a couple car lengths before you think you need to so you can modulate the brakes.  Power application has to be slow and controlled.  You don't just mash the throttle.  These don't drive like a modern Miata or BRZ that has all the nannies and no power and great brakes.  These have all the power and no nannies and brakes are ok at best.  They really are period correct.  I love them for this.  It requires honing a set of skills that many don't have due to modern cars doing it for the driver.   These cars teach car control by eliminating all the computer assistance.  They are hard but they will make you a better driver if you keep at it.

Oh and if it matters the next series will most likley be something more modern.  Maybe back to a single make series?  A spec GTR series?  Spec modern 911.  Or we go to something like a mini pickup series?  We may need to mod/develop a mini truck for this.  LOL

Another option is to go to the bottom of the time sheet from this same pack.  There were some great cars in there but they are much slower than these cars.

Good fun last night and a great test race!!!

We are starting to get a  good size field of cars. If everyone shows up Wednesday we may set a record for the largest field to date in AC.

To all the new people that may be a little frustrated with these cars stick with it. Think under driving. I know these can be tough cars to master but you can do it.

Something for the group to ponder. I can force ABS as an option at the server side. With the number of new people joining recently I am considering enabling it. After all the point of this is to have fun and not forcing realism at the expense of fun.

I don't know if ABS will work... remember how the Singers had much better braking performance with ABS off?  I have a feeling these cars may be similar, but we can try it.  I would prefer to have it be optional if that's a possibility.

Another option to consider is letting the new folks choose their car rather than the random assignment.  At least they'd be able to pick what they are most comfortable with.  HC rules still applicable... wink

Thanks, guys, that was fun. I'll keep pecking away, trying to find that balance that makes up the 30 second differential I have to you guys while still keeping the car pointed in the right direction. But hey, every series needs field fillers, right? laugh

I'm not sure how server side TC/ABS works.  I think its a 'force on/off' scenario, not 'allow'.  I also dont think it does anything for cars that dont have TC/ABS capability.

I think to use it we would need to update the car pack (which I am ok with).  Rodan's point is a good one, but turning off ABS for the extra few tenths is only going to happen at the pointy end of the field*.  Allowing others to use it might help keep the middle of the pack much tighter which I think is great.

*I ran the whole Singer series with ABS though

The rules committee meet (!).  After a contentious 3 hour meeting involving many rules of order, threats of physical violence and some creative bribery.   It is allowed.  Here is a pic from the meeting:

Cool! In that case, I'll take the Alfa, since it's the only one where I've been able to do more than one consecutive clean lap.

I think ABS could help but only if it integrates smoothly into these cars.  If they're not designed for it, it might make them significantly slower and make the braking zones even longer (and maybe even trickier to judge?).  One thing that helped me was turning the "brake power" setting down to 90% which made the brake pedal feel more natural and less like an on/off switch that locked the brakes every time.  I think a lot of the newer drivers could benefit from a similar adjustment because it makes locking the brakes a bit more difficult.

Adjusting the bias also helps.  Moving the bias rearward made the Cobra a little less lethal on corner entry...

Ok I will get on tonight and play with the ABS on the server side.

I will re assign the Alpha to Tom in the master list.

I will also need to make sure I have enough cars of each type for everyone in the server.

If it does not work on the server side expect the need to re upload the cars as we will have to go in to the files and edit them to enable TC and ABS.

Thanks for the info Dean I didn't know that about the voting. Typically I'll just practice on the regular game but I haven't added the Bizz to it and I just wanted to test it easily. I'll quit whining now.

I have made the revised cars with TC and ABS. They are in the cars folder. I have not updated the server. I need to test a server set up with these cars    I was going to hold off going with the new cars this week as we need to test them first.  Running locally they work fine.

HOWEVER. If you install them you will need to install the old un modified cars to play on the server.

UNLESS someone knows how to make them as stand alown cars with different names and different folders.  I tried to do this but the associated cars caused things to not work.

No not at this time.

I would love to try them tonight but as of now I have not changed the server over just because it is such short notice.

If people want to give it a try I am all for it.

We can discuss tonight.  I will get on early and may we can play around with a test server or something.

I really need ProDarwin to work his magic on the cars to make them so they don't over wright the originals.  I was not able to do it with out getting errors and the game crashing.
