I was cleaning my winter wheels for storage this weekend and realized I had a tech tip to share. Around here the insides of the wheels seem to collect hard black deposits that don't just wash off. I think it's asphalt from fresh pothole patches. I've found the best way to remove them without damaging the paint is plastic razor blades.

They can be bent to conform to the shape of the wheel so you can scrape from any direction. They are sturdy and sharp enough to knock off the deposit yet soft enough to not damage the paint. I can always follow up with a chemical cleaner if needed
