CSRG Opens Its 46th Season

By Gary Horstkorta

Sonoma Raceway was the site of the Classic Sports Racing Group’s 46th season opener April 5-7, and 130 cars answered the call. Saturday morning’s practice sessions proved to be a bit challenging, as rain showers swept through the area causing a few dicey moments for the drivers.

The notable news this year? A new group of cars has been invited to join the club: 1972 SCCA A, B and C sedans. The group includes the Porsche 911, Datsun 510, Ford Escort, Alfa Giulia, Alfa GTV, Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. There were 14 entrants, but more cars will surely appear at future events once word gets around.

The CSRG got some exposure in local media thanks to a pre-race publicity effort. Spectator numbers were higher, and there was post-race coverage by several print and online publications. This public relations effort will continue throughout the CSRG’s season to further increase awareness of the sport in the San Francisco Bay Area and attract more spectators and members to the club.
