This year's Amelia Island Concours weekend was not only the best Amelia Island Concours we have attended, but was one of the best concours events we have attended anywhere.

The weekend's events are made up of two world-class auctions; enthusiast seminars; a new Cars and Coffee event on Saturday; and the main event itself on Sunday..

Both the RM and Gooding and Company auctions presented many amazing cars, priced as low as $17,600 for an American Austin Coupe to as high as multiple millions of dollars for important Ferrari cars, Deusenbergs and other important and notable cars. Many world records were broken, making for a great start of the festivities. Of the cars for sale, one of our favorites was the 1953 Allard K3, which sold for a very reasonable $110,000. With only 53 K3s built, this to us represented a nice buy for an important car. The example on offer was in need of some work, but was a solid candidate for restoration of a model eligible for any vintage event in the world.

Our auction tour at RM was also a hit, with more than 30 of our readers on hand for a real hands-on tour of the cars on offer. The tour was led by Classic Motorsports Auction Editor Andy Reid and Publisher Tim Suddard. Vice President of RM Auctions Alain Squindo and RM's Car Specialists Vinnie Mandzak and Augustin Sabatié-Garat also joined the tour, along with and our friend Tom Franklin from Chubb Collector Car Insurance.

The new Cars and Coffee event on Saturday saw hundreds of cars on the show field, with everyting from Alfa Romeos to a huge field of Corvettes and Porsche road cars. These cars were fun to see. It was great that Amelia decided to give people with neat everyday-driver cars an event to show off their wheels for the weekend.

The main event was the Sunday concours. This year's Grand Marshal was the great Sam Posey. Sam was on hand all weekend for autographs, telling stories and posing for photographs. He was a great choice and truly a gentleman driver of the first order.

Also in attendance was the great painter Frank Stella, who painted this BMW 3.0 CSL Turbo E9 Group 5 racecar that Sam drove. Both were around for pictures and autographs throughout the weekend.

This year's featured marques were the Porsche 911—celebrating its 50th anniversary—the Ford GT40 and the cars of Henry Miller. The concours saw an amazing collection of Miller and GT40 cars, but what blew us away most was the incredible selection of different 911 cars on display. Literally every important 911 from the original 1963 prototype to the most famous racing versions of the model were there. If you're a 911 fan and were unable to attend, you definitely missed out.

The show also saw some excellent manufacturer displays from the likes of Mercedes and BMW, including this amazing BMW concept car.

If you have not attended an Amelia Island Concours, we urge you to attend the next event as this is the best sports car and race car fan concours in the world.

We discovered this 1979 Aston Martin V8 Volante at Gullwing Motorcars. These cars have become serious movers in the market, with top examples exceeding $100,000. This car looks to be a decent driver does have some needs but looks very serviceable. It does have an automatic transmission, but an automatic matches these cars nicely. This one has an an asking price of only $69,500, which sounds to us like a great deal.

These cars will always have a following. It helps that Prince Charles still owns both a coupe and Volante version of the car. We honestly cannot see any downside to these cars. The money you put into it will come back in the increased value of the car.
With an asking price this low, we definitely think this is one to buy.
