King of the Road”

That’s the designation given to the 1968 Shelby GT500KR—one of the last versions built before Shelby terminated his contract with Ford in 1969. The GT500KR’s Cobra Jet 428 V8 was reported to be around 335 horsepower–though the actual figure was likely higher.

This 1968 Shelby GT500KR is said to be the result of a “complete nut-and-bolt concours-level restoration performed by two SAAC head judges.” As part of the restoration, original or new/old stock was used as often as possible, so that this GT500 “is equipped just as the day it was new.”

Finished in its original shade of Acapulco Blue over a black interior, the Shelby is accompanied by its original build sheet.

Find this 1968 Shelby GT500KR going across the block at Barrett-Jackson’s upcoming Scottsdale auction.
