Car Catcher: A Vantage-Spec Aston Martin V8 Volante

Built as a successor to the DB6, the Aston Martin V8 marked a departure from previous Aston Martins, namely by dropping the straight-six engine in favor of a V8. Early models were known as the DBS V8 (there were a number straight-six powered DBSs built as a holdover until the V8 was fully ready for production), though later examples were known simply as the V8.

This 1986 Aston Martin V8 Volante is a later example said to have been rebuilt by a previous owner to “Vantage specifications" in 2012 by ProtoTech Services Ltd in Edmonton, Alberta.

Specifically, that meant increasing both the displacement and compression to 5.7 liters and 10:1, respectively. As well, the cylinder heads were hand ported, Vantage specifications camshafts were installed, a five-speed ZF transmission was added and a “proper Vantage cruciform exhaust” was put in place of the stock unit.

Currently, the Volante is reported to have “just over” 49,000 miles on the odometer and comes finished in an emerald green exterior over a tan leather interior.
