Hello, Old Sport

The 1930 Lincoln Sport Roadster was one of the highlights of the Gatsby exhibit.
Quintessential Ferraris, like this 398 GTS, made an appearance.
Sam Mann, this year’s honored collector, brought a gorgeous 1937 Delange DS-120 Aerodynamic Coupe.

Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

October 31-November 2, 2013

We’ve attended the Hilton Head Concours from its inception, and it has grown over the years to become quite the regional event. It had outgrown its old venue, so this year it moved to the Port Royal Golf Club—a 5-minute walk from the Westin host hotel.

This allowed all the cars to be displayed in a much better setting, with manufacturer sponsors setting up nicer displays and making the field look first-class.

With its inclusive car club day on Saturday and the concours on Sunday, it allows more than just heavy-hitter collectors to participate in a top-tier event. The cars on Saturday were in no way lesser and included some fantastic Porsche sports cars, like a 906 and a 550 Spyder, in addition to Fiats, Alfas, Jaguars and Aston Martins.

Some standouts from the top-tier collector cars on Sunday included a fantastic Stutz Bearcat, the nicest Porsche 356 Pre-A Bent Window car we’ve seen, as well as a great display of Gatsby-era cars in a “Great Gatsby” display of classics.

Porsche racing legend Hurley Haywood, the honorary chairman, was available to talk to fans, pose for pictures or sign an autograph.
