1983 Ford Fiesta XR2 Mk1

Race Car, built for Hillclimb and Sprints in the UK, as featured in August 2006 GRM magazine. Back then it had a Zetec engine, producing around 180BHP, but never satisfied, I changed the engine in 2008 for a Ford Duratec, and also decided to rewire the car for the 2nd time, and make various other changes to make it more competitive. Chassis is a 1983 Ford Fiesta XR2, transplanted with a 2008 2.0 Ford Duratec DHE420 engine from the European Ford Fiesta ST150. Titan barrel throttle bodies with 100mm air-horns. A Titan fuel rail delivers fuel to the cylinder head, and the car features Fuel injection running the IW031 injectors in batch mode. The sparks are provided by Coil On Plug modules, individually controlled by the DTA S80 ECU. Tony Law 4-2-1 race exhaust system. ARP conrod and flywheel bolts, a Titan Superlight flywheel (3.7Kgs), and an AP Racing cerametallic paddle clutch and competition clutch cover. It has a self built wiring loom, using nomex sleeving throughout. At the rolling road in May 2011, we recorded 200bhp and 160ft/lb using a 7600rpm rev limit. In February 2011 I installed a prototype five speed Quaife sequential front wheel drive transmission. I am aiding Quaife with the R&D of the new gearbox. race suspension featuring alloy heims and adjustable arms throughout. The front suspension uses 2.25” coilovers, with 275lb springs, and the rear axle has 450lb springs and retains the panhard rod setup. Externally the car has a carbon fibre bonnet, Perspex (poly) windows, GRP tailgate, and GRP wheel arch extensions. Sprayed in Ford Sunburst red in 2000. She weighs 695 Kg, and has a power to weight ratio of 292 bhp/tonne. 0-60 in 5 seconds Self designed carbon fibre dashboard, with Stack instruments, Momo steering wheel, Quaife Sequential gear lever mounted on custom made 5” tall alloy tower and a RaceLogic gear display. 15” x 7” OZ Superleggera rims, and Michelin slicks all round. Focus rear disk conversion, HiSpec alloy 4 pot calipers up front, and 2 pot calipers at the rear.
