1971 BMW Bavaria (E3)

10

I’ve had this car for around 6 years. Drove it for around 5 years daily. It had the original 2.8L engine with 32/36 weber carbs. Made minor upgrades, bilstein struts, urethane bushings. Added E46 front seats and an E34 rear seat, Much more comfortable than the 40 year old stuff. I started installing a V8 from an E39 about a year ago, very slowly..

Just been browsing your website - absolutely fantastic, inspirational stuff! Used to have an M5 Touring so particularly liked your turbo - what ever happened to it? Anyway...I'm just in the planning phase of an E3 Bavaria engine conversion - currently has the 3.0 carb m30. What next is the question. Everyone does the later 535i m30 - yawn. Was thinking about e46 s54 - only know of one other such conversion - been in contact with the guy - not very informative. Next up, and current favourite is M62/N62. Kinda think I'd like to keep it as an auto - suits the size of the car I guess. Never gonna be a racer. What are your thoughts on a 4.4/4.6/4.8 plus 6 speed auto shoehorned into the old beast? Doable? Main concerns are width of transmission, weight of the engine and reinforcing the chassis sufficiently. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! S62 has an outside chance, but I don't really need the added complexity and cost, nor do I want a manual. Would love to hear from you mate, Cheers, Tim Sent from my iPad
