Lamborghini Huracán racer | Proof that bought is better than built?

https://www.youtube.com/embed/bQkR0u3JtHk

In an attempt to find a race car that required less care and feeding than his previous high-powered autocross builds, Eric Hyman decided to take a different approach: Buy an off-the-shelf option.

The result? A 2018 Lamborghini Huracán Performante. Aside from Hoosiers and a modified exhaust, the car is entirely stock.

Presented by CRC Industries.

So the sporty version of a (relatively) light, low CG, mid engine, low polar moment sports car who's platform is also the basis for a GT3 race car and one make championship is a surprisingly good autocrosser?  Color me not surprised.  These, along with Ferrari's and other high end cars, aren't impractical questionable handling pretty toys for street cars these days.  All the supercar manufacturers realized a couple of decades ago track performance is critical to their breed.

$300k, 630+hp, AWD, 3100lbs, mid-engined supercars can be quick. These do 0-60 in 2.9sec when they're not on slicks.

That thing must be a riot

Very cool, but it is a little rough looking at a $300k performance car and trying to be pleasantly surprised that it drives well. In the performance submodel.

I mean, even with All The Money it is hard to build something really, really fast, reliable, and nicely finished. That's just so much money I have a hard time with it.

Glad to see someone using the heck out of one, though.

Also it was driven by a former national champion and was outrun by several $40k corvettes on street tires, among other things...so I'm not really sure you can say it drives *that* well in an autocross setting. Honestly I'd say it's about as good at autocross as I'd expect.

I have always said that when I get my Ferrari, I will be autocrossing my Ferrari. Glad to see someone else has a similar idea. =)

I might be old by the time that happens, but I'm not gonna give that car any special treatment. Every car I've owned since I started autocrossing has hit the cones.

Watching this and the other Spokes supercar - the NSX - are a treat to watch for sure.  If you got the money, can't think of a better way to do it!

I'm trying to imagine an autocross car that requires more "care and feeding" than this incredibly high-maintenance and megabuck beast..l..l
