Street courses: Coolest thing ever or a great way to bend stuff? | Video

Sure, street circuits sound exciting when it comes to spectators, but those narrow courses, high walls and surfaces not built for race cars seem a lot more formidable from inside the cockpit.

These views come from the SRO GT America race during the recent Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Have you ever driven on a street circuit? What was it like?

Do we count hill climbs as a street circuit?

I think street circuits are cool, but unfortunately I've never had the chance to drive a proper "in the city" one.

We vintage raced at the Mpls Trans Am.  Those walls separate the ribbon clerks from the racers

Frankly I was a ribbon clerk

I love the visuals of a street course, but when it came to driving them in video games, they always gave me the most trouble

Man I'd love to drive a street circuit.

I recently found out in 86/87 there was a Grand Prix race held here in Tacoma just a mile or so from my house. So cool.

Heck, the OG Grand Turismo had a street Seattle Circuit that I raced religiously.

Good question. Hill climbs are pretty close, aren't they?

I'd say they are similar in difficulty, at least.

The street circuits in games were the ones I always wanted to be good at, but never quite got the hang of.

Good question: Does a hill climb count as a street course?

Kinda, right? And now put everyone on the course at once.

The answer is both; they have a cool vibe but they tend to be hard on cars.

And I'd love to see the World Challenge of Tampa come back–racing around the Tampa Fairgrounds. (I have seen Maiden, Priest and several others there.)
