https://www.youtube.com/embed/DBn0CliNKU0

If you like the AW11-chassis MR2, gymkhana, mid-engined cars or just the noise of a Toyota 4AGE engine at full tilt, then this video is for you.

According to the video description, this MR2 was specially prepared to compete in the All Japan Gymkhana Series and was good for more than 200 horsepower from its upgraded 1.7-liter powerplant.

Very cool to see that here! I have chased information on that car before. I was trying to find out what modifications were done to the rear suspension, and see if the rear overhang was really shortened like it appears to be in the video.  In that quest I found this blog from a reddit thread:

220 HP in a sub-1400 pound car...........ya, that might be entertaining. I'd be more interested in how they got it down to 620 kilos than I would in finding out how to get 220 HP.

In addition, the side steps and rear spoiler, which had not been installed before, were also installed with genuine shapes.

In the middle of the series, a minor change was made to counter the enemy S1D.
The rear suspension has been refined, and the lower arm has been significantly extended to improve the geometry.
In addition, the engine was renewed by Tsuchiya Engineering, and the bore stroke was increased from the previous 1600cc to 1775cc, and the throttle was also changed to a slide valve to further improve the response.

In the final specification, the rear overhang was cut down by 15 mm, and improvements were made as much as possible to suppress sudden changes in behavior due to the rear heavy.

Funny. I've seen this video a bunch of times and I just happen to watch it again this past weekend. Usually I'm just looking at it on my phone and I've suspected geometry mods to the rear suspension (you can see it in the vid). That said, I've never tracked down any actual info so that's cool to confirm.  I wonder if they did the same to the front?

Also, I'd be curious to know how they got the weight that low as well. Hard to imagine pulling 700lb out of one.
