McCall Jet Party: Transforming the Face of Monterey

Some say that the that Gordon and Sally McCall’s Motorworks Revival, or Jet Party as it is commonly called, is too showy, too expensive and too much. While we’re not going to argue against those facts, we will say that this event transformed Monterey Car Week.

Before the Jet Party’s arrival 26 years ago, Monterey centered on the racing and concours activities. It was one weekend on the calendar. The Jet Party pulled Monterey into a truly international happening–a social affair that wasn’t limited to the weekend’s activities.

The Jet Party has also become a great place to see and be seen. It’s also an opportunity take in some cool exotic and vintage cars and planes while meeting the legends that the week celebrates.

This is more than a car show. Attendees get to savior food and drink–and the event organizers have stepped up things in recent years. Whereas in past years many went to dinner afterwards, that would seem gluttonous today given the plentiful choices in local upscale cuisine that are now offered as part of the admission ticket. The event is for a good cause, too, as the Revival continues to raise money for the CHP 11-99 Foundation This year’s party took place August 16, again turning the Monterey Jet Center into a piece of Hollywood.
