Off to the hospital right now,(neck tightening up)but thought I would post this. 6 days of ownership, and this happens. Another old school rotary going to the bone yard. This should be fun dealing with the insurance company. I have Hagerty, but I am sure they will fight me. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear of that. Hope everything with you comes out OK! FWIW, the companies like Hagerty are generally pretty lenient with allowing the owner to buy back a totaled car. Worth looking into.

Ouch! That sucks. Hope the Docs don't find anything. Good luck.

bummer.....I had the same thing happen in my GT6 about 10 years ago. Except it was a teenage girl in an Escort who didn't see the traffic stop because she was jabbering away with her boyfriend int he passenger seat (I watched in the rearview as she approached, and tried too late to dump the clutch and jump out of the way...)

Pretty sad. Of course it's always bad to get hit but it's twice as painful when the car is a rare one. Hope you are OK but that car looks bad.

"Does it make my rear end look big?"

Makes it look like a very ripe tomato that someone stepped on.

You realize that since most accidents happen within 20 miles of home, it was actually your fault for being less than a mile from home?

Sorry, it's been one of those days. I never like to see any car crunched, but more importantly, I hope you don't require an extensive hospital stay or many follow-ups.

Ouch. Better than YOU going to the bone yard, though. Hope you're not too damaged.

Just back from the hospital, and they gave me a good looksy, and said to just rest, and take these percocets, and muscle relaxers. I don't plan on taking either, but we'll see.

This car was so cool for the 6 days I owned it. It was only my second trip in the car with the first being yesterday with my kids. I am so glad they were not with me this trip as one if not both would be hurt way worse than me. This car took a huge hit,and it is no doubt in my mind totaled. Even if it were a new car,and you could get parts they wouldn't fix this one. Such a shame too because it is super rare, and was maybe one of the nicer ones left in the world.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Once you're mended and the insurance settles up, you should part that car out aggressively as a service to humanity.

On the other hand, yours plus this one might make one whole good one again:

Insurance Adjuster Advice

If you have Hagerty it is probably a stated vaulue policy. Sent a copy of this to her insurance company and have them deal with it. If they balk file a claim with Hagerty.

As for the neck and back it looks as though it was a pretty good hit. If you are in pain continue the treatment and let them know you are injured. Treat until you are better then present the medical bills and move to settle. If you don't have medical insurance this can be a tought time since in a third party liability situation they will not pay unitl treatment is complete and you are ready to sign a release of all claims.

If you have any specific questions feel freet to email me. (I bought some foglights off you about a year ago so you should still have my email. If not let me know.)

Oh my! You're gonna get some swelling with that, I think. Yeah, you're a little more obvious, now you mention it... Get well soon and follow Greg's advice. Can't hurt, can it?

That will buff right out.

Someone had to say it. Glad you made it through better than the car. Take care of your injuries. Sad to see something like that, and it only is worse that it happened on your 2md drive. That sucks.

So what do I replace this car with?? After seeing the damage I am ot sure I want another old school car even though they are my favorite. I love old cars for so many reasons, but maybe this is time to get a more modern day car with better crash standards. I am so glad my kids weren't with me as they normally would be,and this was a real eye-opener. Maybe it is time I get another RX-8 as I think it may have fared better in this collision, but who knows. The truck that hit me was rather larger in my opinion, and I don't remember hearing any sort of skidding,or seeing her nose dive down as I watched in the rear view mirror before the impact.

The seat back also snapped at the hinge, and I landed in the back seat. I would have landed on my youngest son in his car seat had he been there, and that would not have been good. The rear seat cushion is pushed rather far forward as well, and the fuel tank either ruptured,or the fuel leaked from the filler neck tube coming disconnected from the tank. Either way there was a fair amount of fuel leaking, and I was lucky there was no fire.

My back/neck is more sore today than it was yesterday, just as the doctor said.

Chris

Ninja edit: Thanks TJ I knew someone would say it,and if they didn't I was going to myself. Maybe Billy Mays has a product that will fix it. I must stay up late to find out.

Ugh! Sorry to see such a gorgeous vintage Mazda go, but so very glad that the damage to you wasn't worse! And very, very glad your kids weren't in the car with you.

Don't be stoic about the back pain. If it hurts, keep going to the doctors to get referred to a physical therapist. I got "bumped" by a semi (30k lbs tapping you at 5-10 mph is still 30k lbs tapping you!) ten years ago and I started physical therapy too late; my back was just never the same.

Good luck and feel better soon!

Man I hope you are ok. It reminds me of my buddy. I picked up a CHERRY GLH a few years ago. Some old baggle hit him from the rear as well. How many cherry GLH's (or RX-3's) are left anymore??

I hope you get enough money to pay for what that car is worth. it may be hard to make them understand that is like the japanese version of a Cuda, or first gen camaro etc as far as collectability and value goes. I got hit by a crazy lady in a new mustang in my milano, it didnt really hurt it though and i got $700 from her insurance so i wasnt too unhappy.
