Five letter FB. As good as S30s, FCs, and S13s are, those FBs just feel alive.
Integra GS-R
My brother had one. Perfect in so many ways.
Swift GT(i) I had one-great for what it was.
MR2 I had a really crappy example. Still wicked awesome.

Didn't those gain a significant amount of weight in the convertiblizing process?
What we are learning in this thread is that there's a seat for every butt
I just want an '81 Toyota Corolla wagon. Or a Plymouth Sapporo. Or a dohc Isuzu Impulse. Or my old Datsun F10 wagon.
Tony S is right, 89-94 Nissan Maxima SE, the 4DSC four door sports car. Wish I'd kept my 91 5-speed longer, it was great.

Who's putting their butt in this seat??
darkbuddha wrote: Has this thread really made it this far without someone mentioning a Nissan S13? That wouldn't be my choice, but I fully expected it to be somebody's.
I never got the rave over those. My friend had one, I drove it. I didn't hate it, but it didn't really inspire me to want one. It had the stock drivetrain and crazy suspension, but it just didn't evoke any feelings.

You need to be more careful what you ask...

I was going to guess a Florida Realtor(TM), but a bachelor party specialist would also work
3000 GT VR-4 (or the Dodge Version). I loved the fact that it was twin-turbo, AWD, rear-wheel steering, selectable exhaust noise, adjustable aero...heck slap on as much tech as you can! Would still love to have one as a DD.

No offense but this car tops my list of cars to run away from, I've seen and worked on them quite a bit while I was at Extreme motorsports back in the day and these are a car I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy! Sort of the Homer of Mistsu. Mitsubishi basically took everything off every shelf they had and put it on one car. Lots of unnecessary and overly complicated crap. Hard to work on, lots of bits prone to failure. Run away Run away!
In reply to Rumnhammer:
All of this. My neighbor has a low mileage one in his driveway that hasn't moved in years. I lusted after a VR4 in high school, but now I'm terrified at the prospect of owning one

I was the same way back in the day, the specs were impressive even though it only made 300hp and weighed almost 5k lbs. I liked them too until I had to work on them. Even the lessor models without the kitchen sink were garbage, every sensor on the car is prone to failure, and almost everything on the car that will go bad is hard to get to to replace. Read my lips avoid this car at all costs.

They are indeed evil pieces of junk. I knew a kid who had multiple VR-4s. None of them ran at 100% ever. First he had a stock red one that caught fire TWICE, once when the ECM decided to hang 3 injectors WFO, and again when the voltage regulator went bad and it charged at 18V and cooked the dash and controls for the active aero and stuff. Then he bought a grey one with a bad turbo to use as a parts vehicle for the red car but then decided to put it on the road instead because it "runs really good" and drove it around blowing smoke like a diesel. Then he found a 3rd one that had a big single turbo conversion and a junk transfer case, that he was going to swap the single turbo onto the grey car with the hurt turbo. I think that one just ended up sitting. And then he was looking at a 3000GT VR-4 Spyder that had some sort of issues. Eventually he sold them all to buy a $20K Mystichrome SVT Cobra with a bad engine. Yeah, he was all about bad decisions
An acquaintance of a different friend had one that was built to the moon and was one bad mother. It made something like 800hp to all 4 wheels. But only for a few seconds at a time, and then it inevitably broke again and spent months waiting for some unobtanium part to get hunted down.

A guy I used to work with found I worked on cars and approached me about doing his timing belt for him. I was game till he told me what kind of car. I told him he would have to work my shifts for a month and give me the paycheck before I would consider it. That stopped the bugging.
All time favorite: 1977 Celica Liftback
For "honorable mentions", there are many.
I would love to find another '82 GL 4WD wagon like I had in high school:
I've loved the XT since it was new:
And when I win the lottery, I want a RHD Initial D replica:
Obviously...
But I harbor a soft spot for the 1980 Dodge Challenger. My dad bought one on a whim in '81 and I thought it was the tits. Mitsu motor, RWD, 5 speed, bucket seats.
A couple of things about this thread. First, old Japanese cars are cool. And 2nd, most all of them are now unicorns. 1st gen Celicas, FX16s, even FC RX7s and 1st gen MR2s are now difficult to find to a degree, especially nice ones. I've been looking for a pristine '85 MR2 for a while, and they are few and far between these days. Everyone I've come across is a rat, or an automatic. Even RX8s are getting rare around here, and I can't remember the last time I saw an Integra on the road.
When I think Japanese sports car, I think 90s, I think turbocharged, and I think RWD.
There are a lot to choose from, but if I had to choose one?
The one and only: MKIV Supra TT
In reply to pinchvalve:
I love VR-4s but sadly they didn't benefit from the Fast and the Furious bump like its contemporaries the Supra and RX-7. They're also not nearly as loved as Z people with the 300ZX which has made parts for them are harder and much more expensive to get. 3SX is the only provider of aftermarket parts that I know of.
My father had a 1993 Stealth ES (DOHC version of the car without the stupid RT body kit). I loved that thing as it was everything a GT car should be. Powerful and comfortable for long drives.
Now I'm off to look for a post facelift (94+) VR-4.
