Dodge Shelby GLH-S comes immediately to my mind, especially the Omni body shell version. Ford Mustang LX is another?

There were a LOT of odd special order sleepers in the muscle car era. For example, in 1966, Chrysler would let you order the 426 Hemi in any B-body. Six of them shipped out in four door, base model Dodge Coronets.

Subaru offered a couple things with the WRX drivetrain in a more low key package, including a turbo Forrester and the Legacy GT.

Not many people seem to know the Buick Roadmaster got the 265 hp version of the LT1 like the Impala SS. It's a significant bump in power over the Caprice, but in a more sedate package.

Buick Riviera with the supercharged 3.8 might qualify.

Northstar equipped Cadillac DeVilles and early to mid 2000's Cadillac DTS are quicker off the line than they have a right to be. Not bad on top end either.

I surprised a few people with the Volvo 940 Turbo wagon. Few people cast eyes on a boxy wagon and think "fast car."

Back in the mid-70's as a teen in California, dad had a 71 Impalla that surprised a lot of people. Used to take it out cruising. California law at the time mandated all cars manuafactured after 71 for sale in CA had factory smog, all cars bought that was manufactured before 71 had to have a smog system installed. That left 71 out of the requirement. Dad's 4-door 71 Impalla w/400ci small block would spin the tire from one stop light to the next and generally beat the other so-called muscle cars.

Any of the high pressure turbo FWD volvos go pretty once they are on the move and do not look the part.

GMC Typhoon and Syclone -- both capable of low 14 sec 1/4 mile times stock:

86-88 Buick Regal T-Type ( same drivetrain as Grand National)-- capable of high 13 sec 1/4 mile times-- stock

I'm actually seriously thinking about taking the drivetrain out of my 96 Bonneville SSEi and putting it into a 99 Pontiac Montana minivan.. That would certainly qualify!

Some of the newest family sedans would qualify. The V6 Accord can keep up with cars like the Trailblazer SS, and would easily outrun the 3.8L S/C family. I think the V6 Altima is similar.

Every B body got the same LT1 in any given year.. the only difference was the higher speed fuel cutoff in the cop cars because they had the higher speed rated 235/70/15 tires instead of the lame 225/70/15 that was on everything else.. I think the Impala SS got the same cutoff as the cop cars thanks to it's monster (for the time- it was 20 years ago) 255/50/17 tires..

My 01 Grand Prix GTP has shocked a few people, even when I wasn't trying.. of course it doesn't have any GTP badging on it and looks like a beat up and slightly rusty GT.. I want to put that drivetrain in a base Fiero for some really stealthy fun happy good times...
