If you do you the math—$2000 Challenge-style at least—the Grassroots Motorsports $2015 Challenge marks the 15th anniversary of our Challenge events—since we skipped 2000. We already have more entrants this year than we did at this time last year. We have Al Unser Jr. coming, I just asked Amelia Isl…

Maybe the BatVan could come back and actually compete.
HI i was at the 1999 challenge, lot of fun, but i was not prepared for the politics (or with my car 1985 Nissan 2L turbo).
i showed up with street tires, some showed up with road race slicks, guess who never had a chance??
and i spent not quite $1999. dont know what the others spent.
but it is a fun time, and you comrade with all types of cars and people!
I wonder if anyone competitive runs regular street tires now adays?
Maybe they need a non race tire award. Best combined score in the drag and the autocross on a tire with say a 400 tred ware or higher.

Tires are not included in the budget as a safety precaution. With that being said, I hope the competition didn't drive you away permanently. We'd love to have you back!

That's an interesting idea. I'll bring it up with Rick when he gets back from Monterey.

There were politics in 1999 for the challenge?
As for the tires, we did '02, 03, and 04 with R-compound tires, but they were factored into the budget back then. Not sure why that would be an issue- given the performance benefit, they were worth budgeting in.

Do it! I haven't been around here long enough to have seen that one in person.

I still have the first MR2 we competed with, but it has evolved to a track event car and is no longer a $2015 car, closer to $4000.
I will be there for certain.

Man, what I would give to show up with my $2004 challenger, Sr. Frog, a "tricked out" 1995 Saturn SL2... After the event, he became my daily driver, still in full Challenge regalia - GRM number panel, CRC, Kumho, and PRDA decals. Alas, Sr. Frog went out with his boots on, blowing up the transmission (launching a diff pin) on the homeward commute 9 months after the event.
I have the 2003 winning Mongrel Miata but unfortunately I won't be able to attend. Anyone from the original team from PA want to campaign the car?
I'm signed up for my first challenge and can't wait to see some of the cars I've read about in past magazines!

Welcome. You're going to have fun!

You could still run in the exhibition class. That MR2 was pretty epic with all the work you did on it. I, for one, would love to see it again.
