Old-school American Iron, nimble British roadsters and just about everything in between are on the menu for the Seventh-Annual Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival.
The celebration of classic, vintage and modern cars takes place at the nearly 300-acre North Lake Park in Garnett, Kansas, billed as the former home of "one of the most popular sports car races in the Midwest," The Lake Garnett Grand Prix.
Although formal race events at the Lake Garnett Raceway ended in the 1970s, the Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival has been bringing back the sights and sounds of racing to the historic track since it started up back in 2014.
Featured events during the October 9-11 weekend include autocross sessions, car shows, road tours and even high-performance exhibitions around the historic Lake Garnett Raceway.
New for 2020 is a rookie group, which allows drivers "ages 16-17 who possess a valid driver’s license to drive the track in their own dedicated class." Event organizers point out, though, that drivers in this class will need to be accompanied by a legal guardian of at least 25 years of age, and speeds will be limited to 60 mph.
Admission and parking for spectators are free, and organizers are encouraging " families and car enthusiasts of all ages to come celebrate these amazing automobiles."
