When we brought you this 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220SEb with a 6.3 yesterday, the auction had seven hours left and the bid at $22,250.
Seven hours later, this fine W111 coupe brought in an astonishing $63,500! Hagerty values a #1 at $78,600, but that's for a completely original concours-level car.
So for an engine-swapped car to bring in close to #1 level money prompts an interesting question: Is the market now more willing to accept engine swaps, or is this more of a one-off scenario given the intrinsic value of the M100 6.3? Would an LS-swapped W111 coupe have come close to $63,500?
