How much would you pay for a helmet? $500? $5000? $50,000? How about the equivalent of $130,000 plus? That’s how much the helmet worn by Thierry Neuville at Rally Japan sold for in a Bonhams auction.
The popular WRC driver wore it at Rally Japan, where he won the drivers’ world title after finishing third the past three years.
World Rally Championship is hot and so is Neuville. He collaborated with artists local to the rallies he raced in throughout the season and then they were auctioned off by Bonhams. Tadaomi Kawasaki designed his Rally Japan helmet.
The helmet he used at the Monte Carlo Rally with art from Frédéric Platéus sold for £21,760 (approximately $28,000 USD). The one he wore for the Safari Rally Kenya, designed by Thandiwe Muriu, also sold for £21,760. Rally Chile, with art from Javier Toro Blum gaveled for £15,360.
