Starting your own festival celebrating all things automobile is no small feat. There are so many factors to consider: location, time of year, venues, exhibitions, people and of course automobiles just to name a few.
Having said that, the organizers behind the inaugural 2019 Chattanooga MotorCar Festival, Presented by DeFoor Brothers, Sponsored by Volkswagen of America hit a homerun right out of the park with their first at bat. Downtown Chattanooga proved to be a gorgeous backdrop to many of the events. And the cars that showed up were breath-taking. Whatever types of vehicles you favor, they were represented. From Ferraris to Porsches and from Ford NAA tractors to Auburns, there was something for everyone, and everything for most.
And it was amazing to see just who showed up. The grand marshal was racing legend Brian Redman, and we were greeted by many others, such as Corky Coker, Wayne Carini of Chasing Classic Cars, and Brian Johnson of AC/DC, who was kind enough to drive a Volkswagen Atlas to dinner in style.
Tanner Foust was also on hand and graced us with a wild V8-powered Volkswagen Passat drift car.
They held a rallye on Friday, and aside from a slight incident involving a car suffering a mechanical breakdown thus hitting a barrier and injuring two (thanks to the proximity of the Erlanger Neuroscience Institute, both men were okay) workers. We brought our project BMW 318is up and competed in the rallye which resumed later in the day on Friday once it was known that the men were okay and the track was ready to go.
Again, the inaugural Chattanooga MotorCar Festival was a blast. We had so much fun and truly enjoyed ourselves. We’re anxiously waiting to see what they have in store for 2020.
