Very cool but it should stay at the RRH of F for all to see and where it belongs.
She may have famously sung “Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes-Benz”, but legendary singer Janis Joplin personally drove an unmistakably wild 1965 Porsche 365C 1600 Cabriolet. This December, Joplin’s iconic Porsche will be offered as a star attraction at RM Sotheby’s exclusive Driven by Disruption sale in New York City.
Joplin purchased the Porsche in September 1968 and decided that the original Pearl White finish was slightly too conservative for the Queen of Rock and Roll. Janis drove the car everywhere. And once it’s days on the street were over, it was welcomed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland in 1995, where it remained a permanent and popular display up until this week. On December 10, you can own this piece of automotive art.

I saw that in person when I lived in Cleveland in 1996. About 5 years ago I was in downtown LA and I saw it again. The car, or a replica, was on display in the foyer of the Grammy Museum.
I am sure it will bring fairly $$ to someone.
I don't know. It is cool and all. .. . . . I guess. . .. . . But to me someone ruined a perfectly good Porsche. First thing I would do is have it re painted. Just not my style I guess.
If I had the money, It would be cool to win the auction and drive it back to the Rock and Roll hall of fame so it could go back on display. That is not a car you can drive anywhere, at least it will be safe there

Yeah, it's a helluva significant artifact. It would be a shame to hide it away from the public.
As for repainting it, I can't give that comment enough facepalms. The psychedelic paintjob (as well as the owner who commissioned it) are why this car is going to fetch ungodly money when it sells.
Here are some more pictures of it---it was originally Dolphin Grey, not white, and came from the Factory with a rollbar. And, despite the press releases, it's actually an SC, as indicated by the chassis and engine numbers.

For the same reason I never liked Janis Joplin's music. When I hear it on the radio it makes me cringe. Same thing with that car. It makes me cringe.
Hell I never liked those BMWs that have those weird paint jobs. Never understood the obsession people have with those either. I look at those and think the same thing. Someone ruined a perfectly good BMW.
I know there are people that love these things and if it makes them happy good for them. But don't expect the entire world population to think that they are the be all and end all of automotive design. They are not. They are just one small part of it that is liked by a small minority.

And I'm really not a fan of bathtub Porsches, so to me it's not even a perfectly good Porsche.
I love the art cars. I think it can make a normal looking car much more interesting, fun, and personal. I may not like all of them but I generally do like them. If the owner has done it themselves that is like a 10x cool factor bonus.
I would love to make one of my own cars an art car, but if I do the painting, it really will just look like a giant turd. Have to talk to some artist friends.
I guess art cars are very similar to race livery? flames? racing stripes? what say ye?
