How did you handle the evaporation tank for the gas tank, I can't figure out gas line/fuel pump arrangement in the trunk?
After a short drive to work, it was back to the shop for more fixing.
An inexpensive adjustable timing light pinpointed our problem: a messed up distributor.
We packed up the old distributor sent it to Advanced Distributors.
Jeff at Advanced reworked the distributor's internals.
With the rebuilt piece in the car, it runs great!
Our timing was 25-30 degrees advanced at any engine speed. Something was seriously amiss in our Bosch 008 distributor’s advancing system.
We drove our BMW 2002tii project to work this past week for the first time in about a year. While the car tracked and drove straight, there were quite a few engine issues. We suspected that something was seriously wrong with the ignition tuning. A check with an adjustable timing light confirmed this. Our timing was 25-30 degrees advanced at any engine speed. Something was seriously amiss in our Bosch 008 distributor’s advancing system.
We pulled it out and sent it to Jeff Schlemmer at Advanced Distributor. He found out that the springs controlling the advance curve were broken and the guide plates and pins inside were worn out. Thankfully, he’s a whiz with distributors and fixed ours up for $200.
With the new piece back in the car, we set the base idle timing at 12 degrees BTDC and it runs great. Now we can really work on sorting out our beastie.
