Click, view. Click, view. Got the photo.

We live in a world of instant gratification, especially when it comes to taking a photo. Phone or digital camera, right away, you know if you got the shot.

But back in the day, not so quickly.

We just got some photos back from Radwood. Film photos. Yes, the event took place last month. It took a while to finish the roll.

[How to do Amelia on the cheap? Follow our Porsche 911.]

The photos came out okay. A little grainy, but this roll of Fuji 200 might have gone through the CT scanner at the airport.

The camera? Our trusty little Olympus XA2. Sharp lens, quick to use, easy on batteries. Fits in a back pocket. You can easily find one today for $200 to $300. They’ve become hip.

Should have taken more images with it, though. Blame the time crunch of showing the car, covering the event, shooting digital for the magazine and also doing the concours at the same time since it was rescheduled due to weather.

Still, we’re happy with the handful of film photos taken at the event. They definitely add an ’80s vibe to an ’80s event.

For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why I liked the photos I took in L.A. so much more than most of the photos I was taking–I was using the same film, camera and lens.

And then it dawned on me during a discussion with David: the film had gone through an airport scanner on the way home.

Apparently, I really like film grain.

I think that’s what might have happened here. I had two bags of film on my last trip: scan and not scan. (For science!)

But TSA insisted scanning all of my film on the return trip. The airport was a mess due to weather, so I figured it wasn’t time to argue.

I’m now wondering if this is one of those rolls. I have shot Fuji 200 before and found it to have less grain. I have some fresh rolls here, so soon we’ll know.

More to come, but this past Saturday we did a cars and coffee at an Orlando film lab. Yes, all of my images from that day are on film (that I still need to drop off for processing....)

You'll need to log in to post.
