I bought this from a friend of mine a week ago who was short on cash for $1500, and had intentions of towing it back to MS to build up over winter into a Challenge car and/or general autox car.

Due to logistics, it would require me to tow up an unladen car dolly 850-miles from MS -> IL, then tow the car back to MS on it. I'd also be a couple hundred pounds above the tow rating of the van too. Then there's the fact that I'll never have time/money to work on it, and it'll sit in the garage for 3-years before I finally get sick of it and sell it off unfinished anyway, so I might as well just cut it loose now...

So I'll offer it here for what I have into it - $1500. It's located in Rossville, IL(60963).

The good:

  • Runs great
  • No rust, body in good condition for age/miles
  • Brakes are good
  • Exhaust is good
  • Clutch feels good
  • New O2 sensor and battery installed
  • Cooling system completely rebuilt this year
  • No rips or splits in the seats
  • Has a Dinan cold-air intake installed
  • The 17"x7.5" Elbrus wheels on it are fairly light
  • The rear suspension is quiet & tight, no sign of failure

The extras:

  • Vanos repair kit
  • Oil-level sensor
  • I'll include the floor jack(works) that was in the trunk when I got it
  • Right-rear passenger door(silver)*

The bad:

  • Carrier bearing needs replaced
  • HID ignitors/ballasts need replaced, causing the headlights to switch between HID/normal erratically
  • Shifter bushings are pretty worn
  • A/C doesn't blow very cold
  • Right-rear door has damage along the bottom, the interior door panel is MIA, and the window doesn't work - another good door is included*
  • One of the tires is shot, 2 are dry-rotted, 4th is good, as is the one on the spare(stock 17" wheel, not space-saver)
  • The brake indicator light is on, not sure why(they work well)
  • The MAF is disconnected, and I was told it needs replaced - it seems to run fine without it
  • The MIL is illuminated, probably because the MAF is disconnected
  • The steering wheel is crooked, but there's not much(if any) pull. I've not checked tire pressures, but I think it's a combination of different sized wheels/tires on the front(with the spare presently on it)
  • Driver's door not locking

*I've not yet picked up or seen the spare door. I trust that it's better than the one on it, which honestly doesn't look bad from more than a couple feet away.

I've only driven the car about 50-miles, but there's no smoke, no odors, and no visible leaks on the ground(though the PS reservoir is damp). It has 209kmi on it, but doesn't drive like it. I wanted to offer it to you guys before putting it on Craigslist for a grand more.

Unless you want a worn out 78 Ranchero, I think that I am fresh out of bait.

Wore out, it is a CA car and is pretty solid and straight overall.

Board Link

I can include a set of 14" unilug wheels with good tires to make it move easier or use if that is your style. It is suppose to have a 400M that needs a valve job. It is rough but in good enough shape to revive.

Also, I can delivery to near Huntsville, AL. I have to go to Paint Rock sometime soon. It isn't that close to you but a lot better than MO.

Hopefully you put that picture on CL. The ranchero appears to be on fire.

Well, I am closer(Biloxi, MS), but unfortunately the BMW is in IL.

I love old Fords! Sadly, logistics will be even more a problem with your Ranchero as I know it's beyond the van's tow limit.

Actually, I'd love to work out a deal on that. Not sure I can find $500 right now before the holidays though.

Are you interested in anything else in trade(other than a Miata)? I have stuff...bicycles/parts, a few random automotive things, vinyl LPs/45s, enough reclaimed knotty-pine lumber to do a small room, shelving...

If it had drivable tires, I'd be all over this.

I tried sending you a PM, but it bounced...however the bounced reply had your email address in it, so I tried emailing you directly. Let me know if you didn't receive it & I'll just email you through your Craigslist ad with some random & slightly creepy questions.

I've picked up some good used tires the 330i, I won't be back to get them mounted until Monday 11/7 though.

Does the trade have to be in MS, or could it be done in Rossville? Any interest in straight swap for Sadie the challenge budget friendly E36M3 ?

I would drive Sadie to IL. Would the 330 make the drive back to Detroit?

In reply to AngryCorvair:

The 330i is still in Rossville, and while I'm up there I plan on getting at least 2 good used tires mounted next Monday. The tires seemed to be biggest concern to me, as they were cracked all the way around the sidewall.

There is vibration at certain speeds, but it's not consistent or constant, and the general consensus was that it would make it back to MS without problems. Other than that it seems to run great.

I take it Sadie still needs a bit of bodywork on the rear?

Sadie looks exactly the same as the last thread entry. I ran out of play money so haven't tried to do anything with that lopsided ass.
