That did not take long.
Looks like I'm just over conscious when it come to safety.
Time to flush my over 20 yeas of experience and start over.

I don't think I have any pictures on my phone and I am out of town. I will try to get some when I get back.
Here are a couple pictures I found on my phone. I want to say it has 145k miles. It's a clean title.
Of the two cars I could bring, I can guarantee neither will be anywhere close to 100 mph at any point during the challenge.
Will we have another thread where we can ask too many questions about the class? Similar to ProDarwin, fmv will be something I have to figure out.

FMV is simple - what is the fair market value of the part?
Ebay sold listings, craigslist ads, forum ads, etc for similar parts are helpful to establish FMV. If you are really unsure, create a thread on here and ask.
It's supposed to be straight forward. If you FMV a set of stock miata wheels you have laying around for $200, you probably don't need much documentation. If you want to FMV the same wheels for $15.99, then you probably need to show some proof.
If tires are free, then 3 of my current 5 vehicles fit the budget and spirit of this class. As well as the last 3 owned but since sold. I'm not sure what I think of that.
In reply to Robbie :
This would be for a complete car I bought two years ago. I have no record of what I paid for it that I can think of.

Well, its not the ONLY car out there like it. You can start by finding ads for similar cars with similar miles/features. Or searching KBB.com. I'm sure you can find something that's similar. Everyone knows the asking price on cl is also probably higher than the selling price. That is where ebay completed auctions are helpful.
I bought one of my proposed rides from erstwhile forum member sky_render almost exactly 4 years ago for 400 bucks. I dont have E36 M3 for documentation, but I'm pretty sure it's still a 400$ Corolla.
In reply to Mndsm :
Should be able to find the original ad if it was listed here. Or a simple PM to them along how much you paid for the car and printing their reply.
In reply to paranoid_android :
You may need to get approval from the GRM staff.
There are some potential rule conflicts for whole cars. The rules say that your initial purchase can’t exceed $20XX. They have also varied on how FMV applies to whole cars. Some versions of the rules have said FMV could apply to a whole car, some have said it was only for parts you had in inventory.

What is it and how much did you pay?
Option one (the easy button) is my 91 Saab 900 sedan, not a turbo. I paid $1500 for it, and put $75 of radio stuff in it. It needs a battery and a little exhaust work.
Option two is my 84 Rabbit. I paid $250 for it and can get receipts for what I’ve spent on it.
Edit: neither were purchased through GRM. The Saab is from local CL, the Rabbit was from another local site.
In reply to paranoid_android :
I know the Saab will work (nobody is going to argue the value, but still document what you can) and I really hope the Rabbit could get in Challenge worthy condition.
Question: would a bolt in engine swap be against the spirit of this class? My b2300 w/ a newer 2.5 duratec to replace the blown 2.3 is eligible otherwise, and I just bought a set of hankook ventus v12 evo2 tires for it (320tw I believe). What about a near bolt in rear end swap (exploder)? Adding a terblo?
Sent pimpm3 a message to get in line for the Maz3. I probably won’t win the lottery. Maybe this will be a good substitute.
In reply to bluej :
I'm fine with all sorts of swap shenanigans just so long as it functions as a real car when done. Letting your imagination flow is a great Challenge tradition and many many great street cars have all sorts of weird stuff under the hood.
I've thought about my little Suzuki, but what would I do for proof of the price I paid? Comps would be few and far between, and half of them are probably of my car when it was actually running.
In reply to Cooter :
I think people sweat this too much sometimes.
No one is gonna question your numbers if they make sense.
If your purchase price was a once-in-a-lifetime deal, they might. You’ll need a couple receipts, or FMV documentation.

Not that I'm pulling a lot of weight here, but I agree...
otherwise we're giving Bob an excuse not to 2.5 swap a Mazda3... or whatever the Hydundai/Kia equivalent is.
I think the Mazda3 2.3 to ford 2.5 swap is a particularly good starting point for Gastropod entry, since it's pretty well documented/simple. And if you find a cheap running Mazda3, you could probably make enough money on the swap to be cash-positive for the build? Although, I guess you'd have to save the recoup for later... but it'd certain cover the cost of dropping on new tires.

The new (used) mill was something like $240 from co-part on ebay. It's got like 67k on it. There's a ton of the 2.5's floating around from recent model year fusions that were probably rentals and died at the hands of inattentive rental drivers.
I have wanted to attend the challenge since reading about the first one in the magazine. With how crazy (read that as amazing) the cars got so quickly, I have been putting it off as a someday thing. Build a garage, learn to weld, and fill the backyard with maybe usefull parts. Ya'll know the drill. This may be the thing that actually get's me off my butt.
