So there has been some offline discussion about how to do a parking lot build. That VW Mr. Joshua has is really nice but outside what Nocones and I have laid out as a potential purchase price for a car. Plus it doesn't seem to need much of anything so it isn't really a "build". So we have been cruising marketplace around Gainesville looking for candidates. There are some promising options but there is one big issue for all of this for us Midwesterners.
What do we do after the track day with the PLB car? If it is nice enough to be considered for some sort of racing long term and capable of making the trip, we might drive it back north. More than likely it will either be dead or not worth the effort and will need to be disposed of. Does anyone know of the rules in car disposal in Florida and if there is a place nearby to Gainesville or the FIRM that will take it?
Also, if there are others that are interested in a parking lot build, please speak up. I know Nonack and Mr. Asa were involved last year. I think Mr. Joshua owned that mr2. Who all would come hangout on Friday to fix garbage?
Currently, Nocones and I are thinking of a Thursday night arrival to have the entire day to execute a wicked PLB. Any and all info on possible candidates, participants, etc... Will be appreciated. We have a variety of wheels with tires so that should be relatively easy to cover at least.

You could change the focus: Instead of the goal being to survive the challenge, the goal could be to Contend! Start with a good base and make it something special.
I am open to offers and hard to insult.
In reply to MrJoshua :
Honestly, the title issue kind of kills it. I have been burned before and can't bring myself to put money into a car with no title.
Won't Angry need help with the corvair?
If anyone wants to come down a bit earlier, I have a multitude of Challenge budget projects that could be viable. I'm down near Tampa and have shop, tools, truck, trailer if anyone wants to fly in and play in FL for a few days.
Nonack and I have joked about doing a team build competition, my stash vs Stampie's stash, but haven't gotten farther than the idea at this point.

That is appealing. Part of what we are looking for is something that would be fun to hammer around the FIRM. If it is a car you want to keep, probably not on the menu. What have you got that could be rehabbed in a day?
In reply to singleslammer :
How much can you get done in a day?
In reply to hobiercr :
Well, that is part of this thread is to see how much interest there is in a PLB this year. If it is just Nocones and I, then an engine swap on 4 cylinder honda is doable or similar. If there are 4 people, maybe more. As long as there are correct parts, we can probably cover a lot of ground. That was the issue with the 2 times the MR2 was used is that it wasn't using the right parts.

You do know that my stash would kill your stash.

I'm in! Just not this year...
Thrashing up to the last minute of course, and also now fighting tow rig maintenance.

I haven't worked out the travel plans just yet, but what I've come up with so far is that my daughter and I are going to drive the Saab down. That doesn't give us a ton of room to pack lots of tools and other whatnot, but I'd be in for working on a parking lot build.
Stampie has offered up Lil Bastard for the PLB this year. Mostly seems to be fix things that need attention, nut and bolt it, see what happens.
Sorry guys, I am out for this one. Many rallies and a wedding are occupying the same timeframe.
If there are things/parts you find locally or want to have shipped here, I'm happy to go collect them or receive them in advance of your arrival. Consider me boots on the ground as part of the advance team.

Apparently the long term plan with Lil Bastard is Miata Kart. We have been told anything we do is fine as long as we remove valuable parts in one piece (or keep them on the car). Also a stock scruffy Miata will never concourse well.
Additionally I was under the misunderstanding that most of the front end of the car was missing...
As much of a blast as a Miata Kart would be at the challenge we definitely dont want to take up the task of Parking-lot welding in the cage that really would be necessary when loads of the body an doors are removed.
So understanding that body mods where ok and under the misunderstanding that the front was missing I started thinking of what to do. I would ideally like to give Stampie back a functioning car that he can use immediately following the challenge. He likes the idea of a Miata Kart but we can't do that but what's the most "buggy" or "kart like" thing that still has a body? A Manx..
So I explored the idea of a Mazda ManX-5.
I think it almost works.. Will this happen? Who knows. If we get enough people to help with the "make car function" then I could spend time doing arty magic to build the hood. The idea would be to remove the body below the line and paint the substructure black.
Then post challenge Stampie could keep it or just cut it the rest of the way down for Karting.
I will bring some Conduit and Fiberglass supplies so we would be able to make the hood.
Getting pretty excited about the PLB no matter what it looks like.
Love the "Manx" can you find a cheap VW Manx body to donate body parts , or to use it as a plus to make a fiberglass skin ?
Whatever fiberglass supplies I don't use on the Europa, I'm happy to bring too. I may end up building fender flares the night before anyway. I am way behind...please send help to Atlanta.
In reply to maschinenbau :
I probably could help with flares. Depending on whats going on with PLB
Not going to lie I want to watch the fiberglass want to learn a bit more from you guys that don't suck at it
