I answered a Facebook ad that had two LS harnesses and ECUs up for grabs. The ad said "Free" so I messaged the guy and said I could use one "if they are really free". This started a back and forth chat as I explained the Challenge and why a free one would be nice. As we're chatting I see the ad get edited and changed to $50 each, but nothing is said about it in the chat box. The fellow says he'll donate one set to the build. We make arrangements to meet and get the parts and did that at his home last night. He loads the harness and ECU in my truck and signs a "No charge" receipt I had written up. He never even mentions the change to the ad.
Then we start gabbing about my Challenge build and his project car, which he proceeds to show me. We chat for a further hour and then I head to the truck to leave. At the last instant I turned to him and said "You never intended to be giving away parts with that ad, did you?"
He responds with "No, but I have other ads. Just send me some photos when your car is done, I'd like to see it." At that point I reached in my pocket and handed him the $45 I had on me. He's a 30ish, single dad. The two year old was running around being cute. It felt like the right thing to do.
Now, for Challenge budget purposes do I own a free harness/ECU or a $45 one?
