those engines are known for carbon build up when run with cheap gas. Could be pinging caused by the buildup (and the cheap gas) misdiagnosed as a knock.
potentially a cheap fix, as the easiest way to clean em out is to dump sea foam in there, fill it up with 93 octane, and run the piss out of it.
