Is this a major undertaking for a backyard mechanic? A lousy one at that. Well I do have a garage, but lack a ton of knowledge and tools. I can fix just about anything on my old rotary cars though if that helps.

I've got a few more Craigs lister who claim to be coming to look at it...
I need to check and see if the forester rims are right offset and if they'll clear the WRX if so we'll used them as winter tires. If nothing else pans out. Cleaned out the car fri night and found the receipt for the tires...crap i remember they were not cheap $803 WRX is coming with new tires but i'm sure there not the best winter tires.
In Reply to Mazda: Depends you have to pull the motor wich is easy on a subaru but there a bunch of while your in there stuff to do. that could end up costing some $$. Cheap way out looks to be $200 but if you did the water pump, t-belt, T-belt pulleys and adjusters ect seal and the like you could be up in the $450 range. My orginal plan was to fix cheap and send it down the road but wife reminded me we can't have an un-reg car in the yard with out getting a permit....and there no room in the garage for it.
I think you'll be pleased with the Forester rims on the WRX if they fit. I'm running Forester XS(same size and offset as the S) rims and stock Forester sized 215/60/16 on the Impreza TS. Gearing is notably taller, but not excessively so. No rubbing whatsover. The size of your front brakes may be the dealbreaker.
Thanks VP that what i'm worried about caliper clearance. But hopefully someone shows up with real cash and a trailer it will be a moot point.

It's not bad at all. Most people will say to pull the engine (which really is pretty easy), but if you unbolt the motor mounts and use a ratchet strap to pull the engine from side to side you can get the heads out without pulling the engine. I've done probably 10 of them that way. I'd be all over this if it was closer.

It would still be worth the investment. The beginning of Dec., I sold mine and got $3500. I guess it depends on where you are. BTW, Tony- I had real good luck on Autotrader. The guy that bought it came from almost 200 miles away.
I wanted to fix it but dealing with the towns a pain in the ass...been to court twice over un-reg / unused cars in the yard WTF i own the property i pay my taxes i work for a living go bother the hooker and drug dealer in the apartments.... Plus wife says spend no money.. I might not even make it to the track much this year.
Argh....my '99 2.5rs RS gearbox has been on borrowed time for awhile. Gearbox good? I needs to find me one.
Gearbox is good no ishues with it at all. Make you a great deal in the car minus the wheels. Just bring out your RS wheels haul it home and sell off parts to Taiden.
Wife's on my butt to get rid of it and get it off the insurance and tax bills turn in plates etc.
Darn I wish this would go away.
Would somebody please buy this for crying out loud? I REALLY can't do a 42 hour drive on this one.
OK, anybody in the Northeast want a rust free Miata or a 5 spd SVX (daily drivers)?
How about a Justy, a Spirit R/T, a 323 GTX, or the Yugo from Hell (all projects)?
I'll work a deal, if someone wants to haul this south.
What is the bolt pattern? I would love to take it off your hands but I don't think I have wheels that will fit.
^5x100.
Please... someone buy this. The Impreza wants a new shortblock immediately, I'm into it for a grand in repairs in the last month, I can't find the title to sell or scrap it, I'm working 70hrs nightshift a week, I'm utterly broke(go to college, kids!), and the wife's father AND grandmother are near death in the hospital. I don't have time or money to take this on whatsoever, and it's taunting the hell out of me being that I do have wheels and a head unit to throw at it and really need something else to drive .
Please?
ValuePack, what wheels do you have?
Also, if you don't want the motor, I am MORE than happy to refund you.
Taiden: nothing much in the way of wheels I can part with. '04 Foz XS 16s on the TS currently, with 215/60 iPikes, one with a good bend/bubble combo. These need to get fixed up and rewrapped for SWMBO in the spring. '98 OBS 15" steelies from PsuedoSport, partially stripped for paint, newish Fuzion HRi 205/60s. Buy the Forester, and you can stop on the way to borrow the steelies for a month to get you home.
I'll officially raise the white flag on the EJ22. I'll never get up there in a reasonable amount of time, and it'd need a thorough going over, something I can't take on with things being what they are now. Keep the money. Call it back storage fees, call it a long overdue tithe, an investment in your future, etc.
You'll need to log in to post.
