NMNA
That price seems steep with a blown head gasket, if you have to take the chance that it overheated badly etc. Unless of course you go in planning for an LS swap
I have pics of the interior. It's the two tone tan with light burl wood. Sunroof panels are missing the fabric, but otherwise are there. Door panel inserts, like all E34s, have come unglued. Seats are all torn. Dash looks okay, and apparently all the wagon-specific trim is still there. Definitely rough.
It has a trailer hitch, and was apparently used to tow motorcycles. Owner has had it for ~5 years and did the swap when they first got it. Texas car.
I'm sorely tempted. Equally priced E34 wagons here are, of course, automatics that are quite rusty. I'd take rust free but needs a head gasket any day, but I agree, the price is a little steep. Not crazy, but not a screaming deal either.
If it's rust free and the wagon specific bits of the interior are there - that can be a very, very nice car. I'd try to weasel it lower but the E34 wagon is the best looking of the breed so clean body is worth more to me than rust on a good runner. There are plenty of engine options for this too - everything from an S52 to a practically free M50 to an S38 will fit in there. If it's M50 now... an S52 and a ZF trans will be a weekend project for roughly $2800.
Yep. I'm trying to work out trailer and such now, since a non-runner can be really hard to get on a uhaul...
Going to pick it up on Friday! Yep, getting it for a bit less.
Stroker, looks like I owe you a beer.

It's gonna be a big one.
(Glad to hear I posted something useful, unlike most times...)
In reply to paranoid_android74:
You know, I've never done a build thread on GRM (the E30 was on r3v, the chevy wagon was on the impala SS forums), so I guess I pretty much have to. Especially since it's GRM's fault that I now will have 4 cars, haha.
I'm on the fence right now, for a lot of reasons. I'm just one person, and I already have 3 cars and 4 bikes. Most of them need something, as I'm sure many of you will understand. My current 'daily' vehicle is/was a 1989 Caprice wagon, 5 speed swapped, with ~375 hp. Great fun, until a rocker stud breaks and heads crack. I'll cover that more in a build thread, but I'm getting tired of pouring money into the Chevy, since the rust is getting pretty bad, and every single piece of rubber sealing the interior has failed. Of course, because it's not a desirable car, no one makes replacement bits. This all conspires to make for a relatively bad DD. 11 mpg is also not great.
So for now, the E34 will be made to be reliable. Interior will be fixed up (actually already have a line on most of the parts) and I'll pull the head and see how bad everything looks. If the engine can be saved, I'll probably just slap a head gasket on and go. If the head is warped or there is any other major engine damage (or I happen to find something cheap) then I will swap in an M52/S52 converted to OBD1 with the M50 parts in the car.
Man, it feels good to be talking about BMWs again after doing chevy stuff for so long. It's like coming home.
Well, I'm sitting in a bar in Kansas City after almost 8 hours of driving. 13.5 mpg averaging 73 mph with the trailer...can't complain about that. My fuel cost estimate was far enough off that the difference will actually pay for the hotel room, haha. Pick it up tomorrow morning!

So what's the verdict, mang?
