I don't think I can use this one.
The piston appears fine, including the ring lands. I couldn't detect any problems with the crankshaft, but I'm wondering if I should have it checked at the machine shop. It's hard to imagine this much force to bend the rod and not damage something else. Might be time to go to Plan C, whatever that is.
Can you refresh my memory - what happened that caused the engine tear down??

This is from the junkyard engine. Looks like it was hydrolocked. I can buy a single rod on eBay for about $35-40.

The vortec rods are quite different. According to David Vizard in his book How to Build Max-Performance Chevy Small Blocks on a Budget, the Powder Metallurgy Forging (PMF) rods are stronger and lighter, and don't require balancing.

You can easily tell them apart. The PMF rods do not have the pad on the outside of the rod cap. It's not as obvious here as my example is from a set that's been balanced.
