I totaled my 2011 Touareg last May and accepted less of a payout from insurance to retain the vehicle. The buyback value was $1077. Would that be accepted as the the purchase price? I'm not sure how else I could value it? Damaged and a salvage title.

Technically that's an inside deal. Realistically, that is probably close to what it would go for at auction for anyway, which is likely how insurance calculates the buyback number. I would be cool with it.
Is that a TDI? Please build a diesel-powered Challenge car...

Sadly not a diesel. 3.6l VR6. Figured with lighter weight it could probably scoot pretty good. Stock HP is 280, chipped 308.
Other thought for it was to build it into another VW chassis. Or leave it as a Mad Max esque cut up.
Basically at this point I'm parting it out and trying to sell off and strip down anything that doesn't relate to running/driving. And keeping the stereo because it plays DVDs...

I was hoping that was the backup camera.

In reply to wvumtnbkr :
It had one, but I already sold the rear hatch for $600.

Wendy, darling, love of my life.. I'm not going to hurt you, just back into you a little!!
That question has been asked in the past, and maschinenbau is correct, that situation is an inside deal. I too would be OK with it.
