I bought the trunk with spoiler for hazmat from the junkyard.

$35 for the part.

As I interpret the rules, core charge and Tax don't apply. Auction fees apply for a purchase of a car, so they apply for parts? Or do we call the environmental fee the tax that it is?

Anyone have any info to counter/agree with my thoughts?

I'd put down $34.99 for the part. Noticed that you shorted yourself a penny. Just ask Pat, pennies matter.

I'm just shorting myself as I speak here to save the keystrokes and make it easier to talk about.

The $35 valuation maintains viability for the challenge.

I was told core charges count when i asked in 2017

The core counts if you sell off the budgeted piece that you are replacing for recoup (or you never had one to begin with). But I suspect you already have a trunk lid in budget?

If you elect to keep the spoiler-less trunk you already have (but don't use it on the challenge build), then the easy solution is to claim it as recoup at the core charge value. Of if you can sell it for more than that...

I have the stock trunk lid that I just don't want to destroy. Because there's no good reason to.. I'd rather take a possible budget hit over ruining the stock good sheet metal, especially since they have the stock VIN numbers on them from the factory.

So wait - the stock trunk lid you have already (ie not the one you just paid $35 for) is functionally identical to this one, and you just bought a different one for the challenge to drill holes into?

Then I would say you have an argument to not have any budget hit at all. You already have an equal part in budget.

The only difference is the stock one has different spoiler holes because it uses the Si top mounted "wing" spoiler instead of the EX style rear mounted small one.

Ok, so maybe not perfectly functionally equivalent.

But for sure your existing hood would count as a "core" to the junkyard. So you have to include the core charge but you can recoup it back if you don't use your existing hood for the challenge in any other way.
