Well gents, the time has come to sell my wagon, as I am moving to Germany for the foreseeable future.
1988 Caprice Estate. 229k, or maybe 129k, it's hard to tell. It has the venerable 307 (not a typo) Oldsmobile backed by the 200R4. The car runs, drives, and stops, but the carb has been acting up as of late. It likes to throw a SES light, which said it was the idle control valve? I believe. I had it replaced, but it still throws the code. Who knows, it might be a vacuum leak. That said, I would not hesitate to drive this thing cross-country. The AC works, was converted the R134 and has freeon in the system. It can be finicky sometimes, and I suspect it's due to the sometimes high idle that the car suffers from due to the aforementioned issue. The tires I bought in 2011 and are in good shape aside from some scrubbing on the outer tread from autocrossing. Yes, I have autocrossed it. It's a blast.
It does have some rust, especially around the wheel wells. It is after all, a NE Ohio car, and one of the previous owners did drive it through a winter or two. All of the critical components are solid and sound, but the body is not perfect. That said, it still displays well, and was even let into a car show recently. The headliner is typical 80s GM fare, held in place with staples lovingly placed by the PO. The rear window is slow to go up, usually requiring some assistance in the process. It also has a finicky wiper/cruise/turn signal stalk. The wipers won't always turn off right away, and sometime the cruise won't engage on the first try, but none of the functions ever fail to work altogether. Everything else works, even the tape deck. The front bumper filler is toast. It's still there for the most part, but it's super brittle. It's not perfect, but it goes down the road with aplomb, and it looks cool doing it. It has no troubles keeping up with traffic on the streets or on the freeway.
Located in NE Ohio. $2,000 O.B.O.

This thing with a newer 5.3/4L60 would be amazing.
I wish I had seen this run at Lake Erie Speedway! Only made it to two events last year, none so far in 2014. We just bought a 1993 Caprice Classic wagon for cruising around Western NY. I have to say it is not quite as classy as the '88
My parents had the Olds version of that when I was a kid. I still have fond memories of playing in the back of that while on road trips.
Good luck w/ the sale..........
$1,500? Anyone? Bueller? I forgot to mention that it had nearly $2000 in suspension work back in 2010. I replaced all of the brakes in 2012. I'm leaving in three weeks, and have no place to store this car.
I would love a car like this but unfortunately we are in the process of refinancing the house so no money to spend. Out of curiosity, what kind of milage does this get for regular driving? Good luck with the sale

I can offer it sanctuary if you can get it to Minnesota- but that's about the best I can do- I am cash poor.
In reply to nepa03focus:
In city driving, it's not great. I've never calculated it, but I would venture around 13. It's not bad on the highway, though. Cruising at 65-70 I've been able to eek out 21, but at 75 it's less than that.

I really like it, but NE Ohio is a haul from Nashville and I have no time. I'll check on some shipping options. When do you need it gone?
Well, I leave on the 20th, but it's in no danger of getting kicked out of the driveway, so you'd definitely have time.
The carb has been acting up again, but I am still confident that it would drive anywhere. I drive it 50+ miles daily without fault, aside from some half-to-wide open bogging it does when warm, and the air loves to work when the check engine light is on. Surely it's a simple silly problem, but I have not the time to dig in and find out why. In light of that, I am dropping the price to $1,100. I'll even throw in a set of Buick Rallye wheels in the correct 5x5 pattern!

so - if anybody wants this car for less than anything it was posted for, send me a pm.
i did not even think about it before buying, but i need rear shoulder harnesses for my son in booster seat, and 88 was the last year of rear lap only belts. so i can't drive him around in it.
i just want my $ out of it plus a little for the gas and time it took to drive 90 miles out with one vehicle and 90 back with two, and the few little things i've fixed on the car in the last week
