Looked at that car the other day for a friend.  Pros: Has hardtop (poorly painted, no defrost, but not apparently cracked and all latches are in place), decent carpet, IL motorsports console and poorly painted rear mud flaps, AC appears to work.  Cons:  Running hot when it was running, rust is bad, and runs the length of both rockers, front end is tweeked, either the battery, the alternator or both are bad because it wouldn't hold a charge and the motor died when I tried to raise the headlights.  Might be worth buying either for a part out or winterbeater (if you can sort the mechanical issues yourself).  My friend wisely passed.  Owner was VERY slow to respond and my friend had to hound him.  The good news is I pretty much told him I thought a part out was his best bet so he might be prepared for a low-ball offer.

Wow. Two large for a rusted out NA. Yeah, it's got a hardtop thats worth 500 bucks. For about that amount of dosh, you can score a decent NA off the SF BayArea Craigs with absolutely no rust and not needing nearly that much work. Fly in, change the oil and drive it home. You get an adventure along with a decent Miata!

Here's a coupla examples: Here's a '95 with a Torsen and new clutch: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/d/1995-mazda-miata-18l-torsen/6641916593.html

Or a '91 with a billion miles: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/1991-mazda-mx-5-miata/6663274790.html

For a coupla more grand you can get a really nice NB...

I really have no idea how you guys back east deal with the rusted parts. Not trying to give you a hard time, (well, not much) but I don't have to get the PB Blaster out very often...

If anybody needs an SF Bay Area car looked at, I'm more than happy to do the deed. Since I've owned somewhere around 50 cars or so, I've got a pretty good idea of what constitutes a good deal. Getting up to Santa Rosa from San Jose can be problematic but anything within 30 miles or so is a piece of cake.

I drive right past this every weekday, so if someone is genuinely interested I can stop and check it out. He has a Starion/conquest listed too - I really want the wheels off that one but I have no reason to make that happen.
