Of course, CL sellers that begin their ads with "collectors' item" when referring to a rare but not generally desirable car are usually completely friggin insane on their asking price.

So is there room for a 390?

Pacer X package: Available as the Pacer X from 1975-1978 in coupe form, this version was renamed Sport in 1978 and subsequently eliminated. The trim package consisted of vinyl bucket seats, sports steering wheel and custom trim, as well as a floor-mounted gear shift and front sway bar. The model received exterior chrome features, styled road wheels, Pacer X decals on the doors, and other package identification.

I installed a new rack and pinion in one exactly like that back in 1983. Hmmm...

Of course, or a 401; the Pacer was offered with a factory 304 option in 1978 per Wikipedia. And since the blocks are common...

I think the purple one shared would be a lot better if clear headlight covers were installed to smooth the front a little and most of the chrome was painted black. The wheels, if something from the '03 Mustang Mach 1 could be installed (I really like those wheels on a lot of cars, at least in concept because I don't see them often), that'd be a nice change, and then a more modern mirror. And not purple. And no stripe.

Basically I like Pacers but not that one.

Yes - I had a neighbor that put a 401 from a Wagoneer in his Pacer.

A 360 would probably be easier to find for a Pacer swap

I think the ad means that if you buy that car the sales team will provide a lady to bend over for you. Desparate act from a desparate sales team....

Stroker 4.0 HO for the bolt-in-win. Hell, the stock motor will have the rods and crank you need.

I bet if you painted it to look like an RS200, you couldn't tell it was a pacer.

If someone can't tell the difference between an RS200 and a Pacer, I'm not sure they'd recognize either

I vaguely know about the Jeep stroker but a jeep straight 6 in a pacer? With that MPG? And stick?

Hush, young'un.

Jeep 4.0 is a bored-and-destroked version of the 258 straight six...which that Pacer has, since the 304 wasn't available yet. The crank and rods from the 258 in the 4.0 block create a 4.5l engine (can't remember CI, but it's bigger than the 258).

I emailed the seller; he wants $2,000.

Mostly offtopic: If anyone ever finds a Gremlin with a 4 cylinder, which is a VW EA827 8 valve, and manual transmission, a Ford of Germany Type E, ... the bellhousing will mount a VW 4 cylinder to a Merkur XR4Ti Type 9 five speed rear wheel drive transmission. Weird, huh?

That one is actually owned by a girl who's dad helped her build it in time for her drivers license and the Hot Rod Power Tour. She made all the decisions on color and wheels, etc.
